Week 11!
I couldn’t have picked two better shows to finish my internship with if I tried. Friday night was The Bros. Landreth (who won a Juno award), and Saturday was The Ragbirds. There’s a great write up on Billboard about The Bros. Landreth here: http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/the-615/6327854/bros-landreth-interview. It was awesome to talk with the band and see them perform in such an intimate venue before their career takes off even further. The Ragbirds show was a Music Night on Jupiter promoted event. The band was very talented, and the crowd loved their performance. I greeted the guests, worked the front ticket booth, and assisted with other show night tasks. It was cool to see the Bros. Landreth show come together because they were one of the first artists I focused on when I got the internship in February. I created a media list to send to the band’s management to generate press for them. They were one of the first bands I sent the list to, and they were able to utilize my contacts to promote the show. The list included all local media outlets such as newspapers, radio, TV, blogs, college media, etc. Other artists like Kristeen Young commented that the media list was helpful. The Pittsburgh Winery can continue to use the media list to send to the managers and agents, and hopefully I will make more contacts to add to their list. Although my internship for college credit has ended, I will still be at the winery! I will be working a few shows part time and helping with any other events where they could use my assistance. I learned so much and made so many new connections from this internship. The whole experience was beneficial and fun! I acquired even more skills and am confident that I want to continue pursuing a career in the music industry.

Week 9!
It was an exciting weekend at the Pittsburgh Winery. I was very bummed I had to miss out on working theSHIFT EP Release show Friday because I was attending the Outstanding Student Awards! Saturday night was a “secret” show featuring Pittsburgh natives The Clarks! They did a Pledge music campaign online to raise money to fund their new album of cover songs that have inspired them throughout the years. People that pledged certain amounts were able to attend the special show at the Pittsburgh Winery that was not open to the general public.
Some of the packages included a meet and greet and first choice seating. The other package included a poster. It was a sold out show, and I was able to learn a lot from talking with The Clarks’ manager. I also talked with their guitar tech that now works at Stage AE, and spoke to my Concerts and Promotions class with Professor Ed Traversari. It was also awesome to see The Clarks perform live because band member Greg Joseph is my professor for Talent Management. It was cool to see all aspects of the entertainment industry come full circle.
I assisted the band manager with greeting the fans, checking the guest list, distributing the posters, and telling them about the venue. Sunday night was another show with the headliners Mark Rose (of Spitalfield) and Shane Henderson (of Valencia). This was a Drusky Entertainment promoted show. Their rep for the night showed me how they do ticket sales through Ticketfly, and also how to do settlement with the headliners and local band. I learned how the different forms of ticket sales transactions went through. I am looking forward to Thursday night’s Songwriters in the Cellar show! Week 7!
I had so much fun working my first wedding at the Pittsburgh Winery! They do not typically hold special events like this in the venue, so it was really great that I was able to be a part of the special day! I arrived around 4 pm for set up. We did not need to really decorate or move too many things around. They wanted to keep the normal artwork and seating arrangements the way they were. We moved the tables and stools to the sides to create the aisle, and put down ivy to designate the walkway area. We cleaned off the tables and set up and lit candles all throughout the venue. We also set up name tags, the gift table, and the stage (altar). The caterers were there setting up at this time. They used the back green room area to heat up and prepare all of the food. The cake arrived shortly after and was set up on the dessert table.
The DJ had already done his sound check and was ready to get started. Guests started arriving at 6:00 pm, and mingled for about a half hour. There was an enormous fruit and meat/cheese tray out, and the wine bar was open. There was also beer in tubs on ice from a local brewery. Everything in the wedding was done locally.
They used the hashtag #CJKJ15 (their initials) so that they could find all their photos from the wedding on social media.
The ceremony itself was very short, but so beautiful. The bride and groom did their first dance, cut the cake, and then ate dinner. The guests all had a great time, and we did not have any issues. Through out the night we cleared tables, restocked beverages, moved stools and tables, and kept everything running smoothly.
After the guests departed for the after party we tore everything down and cleaned up. The Pittsburgh Winery was open the next day for wine tasting and a show in the evening. Clean up was quick and easy, and we left around 11 pm. It was a great event and a beautiful day for the bride and groom!
