United Airlines-Diet Coke Flap: Muslim Claims Discrimination
The Great Diet Coke Discrimination Caper- Rosa Parks Move Over!
The headlines read: Muslim woman cries discrimination after United Airlines flight attendant refuses to give her a full unopened Diet Coke. Twitter goes nuts with calls to boycott flying United.
Tahera Ahmad is a Muslim chaplain at Northwestern University. She was flying from Chicago to Washington DC last Friday. When she requested an unopened can of Diet Coke the flight attendant refused. According to Ahmad, she was allegedly told ‘you might use it as a weapon.’

Ahmad immediately took to FaceBook to share the incident.
Twitter users responded with support. Soon, the hashtag #unitedfortahera appeared as people expressed their support for Ahmad – and their criticism for the airline.

Oh the horror of it all, or……..maybe not.
Ahmad’s claims of discrimination have not been corroborated by any passengers, and United Airlines rejects that any wrongdoing or acts of discrimination occurred. There’s no evidence (but for her firsthand account) that the incident ever occurred.
Still, evidence or not, many have taken to reporting on Ahmad’s account as a case of “Islamophobia.” Islamic supremacist groups such as CAIR (Council on American-Islamic relations) have condemned United, telling Al Jazeera that they have taken an interest in filing a lawsuit on behalf of Ahmad.
Who is Tahera Ahmad? Radical Ties
According to Breitbart News, Ahmad has demonstrated an affiliation with and support for radical Islamist groups that seek to employ deceptive tactics to foster their agenda of Sharia law. Ahmad has attended and participated in multiple conferences over the past couple years which were hosted by alleged Muslim Brotherhood front groups.
She has also proudly written about, and has happily posed in photos with radical Imams. Last December, Ahmad attended the MAS-ICNA (Muslim American Society- Islamic Circle of North America) conference, which featured prominent leaders within the global Muslim Brotherhood network.
Even with her record of supporting radical Islamist groups, the Obama White House recognized her as a leading “Muslim female in the United States.” According to a report from Northwestern University, Ahmad is a frequent Ramadan dinner attendee at the White House.
Some People Can’t be Pleased
United released a public statement on Saturday, saying they had apologized to Ahmad.
‘We provide full beverage cans upon request, assuming there is enough for service to be completed. ‘The flight attendant onboard Shuttle America flight 3504 attempted several times to accommodate Ms Ahmad’s beverage request after a misunderstanding regarding a can of diet soda. The inflight crew met with Ms Ahmad after the flight arrived in Washington to provide assistance and further discuss the matter. ‘Additionally, we spoke with Ms Ahmad this afternoon to get a better understanding of what occurred and to apologize for not delivering the service our customers expect when traveling with us.’
Again taking to social media to air her grievances, Ahmad responded to the United Airlines statement.
Ahmad posted, ‘This is not about a can of soda. I was really hoping that after speaking with me they would have publicly acknowledged their lack of consistency in following procedure, the flight attendant’s rude and discriminatory behavior and accusations which led to hateful words.’
Ahmad claims she was not trying to get the flight attendant fired. Instead, she wants the airline to recognize its ‘role’ in her painful experience, and how it planned to modify training to ‘prevent this from happening again’.
Here’s some advice for Ahmad: Sticks and stones may break my bones……….never mind. Don’t want to be accused of being racist by telling a Muslim about stoning.
