Staring at himself in the mirror, Ash felt desperate. He knew actions he could take, should take in fact, but he just...he didn’t know. He felt defeated. After all, he wasn’t some smart Professor type. He had no idea what to do for events like this. Sure, if it were a Pokémon league thing he could possibly fake it, but when it came to the world of professors and banquet dinners and science things? Ash had no idea.
He thought of asking his mother, and that would be his first choice usually, but she was away. He thought of the one he was set to go with, but the idea of confessing that he didn’t know what to do or wear or say to a science banquet was humiliating. His female friends...he thought of them, but it just wasn’t the same. They could help, but they weren’t available. It seemed like no one was. And all Professor Oak has told him was something nice.
There’s a grumble of nerves from his stomach. The raven haired sighed, grabbing his yellow Buddy and going outside to take a walk. He gets to a bench and sits, scratching Pikachu and feeling like he lost. He was a champion, how could he be this bad at something like this! He rests his head in his hands and mumbled to Pikachu.
Pallet Town was tiny. It wasn’t uncommon to know who was passing by. Many times had he sat here and came across old classmates or friends of his mother. He thought he knew everyone who passed by. And then, when he saw that flash of maroon at the corner of his eyes he let out a huge sigh.
“I’m not in a battle mood—“ Ash confesses to the person. He looked as defeated as he felt. His cap was resting on his Pikachus head, his clothes just a simple T-shirt and shorts. “I know it’s shocking, but really—“ he runs a hand through his hair and causes it to stick up more.
He must be growing up. Who would have thought he’d ever turn down a battle?
