MUZIQ 4D 3RD EAR: Noname Delivers With Another Hip-hop Womanist Anthem
By Ada Adi | April 21, 2021
Beloveds, Abadie? Idemfo? What up doe?
While our society continues to unravel, and protests against police brutality continue to unfold and evolve, Noname is tapping into her political and ancestral energies to bring us the protest music we need to hear. tho the protest music is beautiful, seeing how Noname moves in her personal and communal life is really why we need to hear her.
Noname engages in on-ground, grassroots organizing work. She tries to practice what she preaches. And because of her organizing work, I love to hear her melodic, rhythmic philosophies. Her music lands different on my spirit than the “conscious” hip-hop music of capitalist transmisogynoirists. I truly stan a practicing, conscious, hip-hop womanist baddie.
tho Noname’s organizing drew me to “RAINFOREST,” her melodic mantras keep me returning. Because not only do EYE love to hear her voice and slow whine to the melodic rhythm of her song, EYE ESPECIALLY love being inspired to say “It’s fuck they money” at the next riot or looting and “How you make excuses for billionaires?” at the next people’s assembly.
Thank you, Noname, for reminding us that we can be pro-Black women, pro-Black QTs, and anti-capitalist at the same time. We love that for you. And we love you.
