Y'know, it's funny that @mallverse should get an update of sorts tonight because I just so happened to also challenge myself to redraw this old doodle from 2017 with no references. I still don't know how Cloud's hair works, or how to draw cats, and the perspective, proportions, and anatomy are wonky because of the lack of refs, but, hey, I'm impressed with how far I've come since that initial doodle!

Also, while poking around for a couple Mallverse Olette refs I found this post again: http://mallverse.tumblr.com/post/119426595407/riku-trying-to-be-clever-and-attaching-a-prom So have a crappy doodle based on it. Sadly Cloud’s eyebrows were lost in his hair taking away from his confused expression... Man, if I thought I didn’t get Olette’s hair I really don’t get Cloud’s! XD For those who can’t read my writing there: Cloud: Roxas, who was the cat trying to ask to prom? Roxas (off screen): What? Meow Wow: Meow?

Cloud and Ducks

I lied about not focusing on ducks, have some more Duck Thoughts.

Scrooge is the richest dude in all of the Radiant Garden and Twilight Town area, and tends to have a chauffeur drive him between the two and around RG. But he'll ride public transit if:

It's a free ride day. He's cheap as hell; he simply can't resist.

Gas is more expensive than usual

The triplets want to take the train/tram for fun, because Scrooge is a huge softie actually

All this to say, Scrooge and Cloud have ended up in the same train compartment a few times. Sometimes Scrooge rants about things in the business section of the newspaper to anyone within earshot. When he looks around for validation, Cloud just nods awkwardly because his mamma taught him to respect his elders, even though he frankly has no idea what's going on.

Cloud is the first Strife to meet Scrooge actually, since he lived in Radiant Garden before the rest of his family moved to Twilight Town. One night on the phone he's telling the twins stories of the interesting people he sees on the train, and the twins DEMAND proof of his claim that there's sometimes a man who wears an honest to god top hat. They tell him to take a photo next time, but Cloud retorts, "I'm not carrying around a camera just to take sneak shots of strangers."

"Your phone has a camera."

"It has what!?"

Another time on the train, Cloud finds himself in the company of an exhausted looking man and a pair of rambunctious, identical young boys. The kids run around the train car, climbing on seats to look out the windows, and chattering nonstop to anyone who makes eye contact. The tired man tries to rein them in, apologizing to Cloud, who happens to be sitting closest to him. Recalling his own single mother struggling to wrangle him and his brothers at that age, Cloud tells him not to worry about it. As the boys start a tug of war over something, Cloud adds, "My little brothers are twins too."

That's when a third identical boy pops out of the overhead rack and chirps, "Actually we're triplets!!"

Riku trying to be clever and attaching a “Prom?” note to Meow Wow’s collar, but the bastard is so fucking fluffy that it gets buried. Stress, panic, awkwardness, etc as Sora blatantly ignores Riku’s proposal and prom is fast approaching. Eventually Sora brings up the topic, but in that “halfway through the conversation already” way, jumping right to the planning of details for the evening. Because it was never a question in his mind that they’d be going together. Riku is double confused, trying to figure out if Sora did in fact say yes and he just forgot somehow, or if Sora MEANT to say yes but forgot himself, or what. But he’s relieved enough to let it slide either way.

Weeks later, Cloud is visiting home and finds the note.

I love how you draw Sora with a darker skin tone.

Well tbh I try to stick to canon models for that sort of thing more than I know some AU makers do, but in Mallverse the Destiny Islands are in a distinctly different biome than Twilight Town. And Sora continues to be an adventurous, outdoorsy fellow even after the move. Roxas and Cloud are more indoorsy and lose a bit of their glow, though depending on who they’re standing next to they’re still quite tan. Not that I ever remember to properly color it, or color at all really :B Though I was also thinking that the unseen former Mr. Strife was distinctly darker than Suzanne; Sora takes after him the most, whereas the two blonds favor their mothers’ genes.

One of these days I should probably figure out how far DI is from TT/RG in this AU. Honestly I was thinking pretty damn far. I mean, DI has essentially no seasons (just sunny and warm to hot all the time), whereas TT definitely has all four in all their extremes. So like… a New York to Florida type of distance. 1,000 miles or what-have-you.

Sometimes I get stuck in a loop of “this doesn’t make sense if you scrutinize it” and I have to shake myself by the shoulders and go “BRUH. It’s a cliché high school AU. Maximum lulz is the goal. Stop killing it with logic.”

SO! RGU Bros house thought(s): The lease requires four people to make the split rent reasonable. But as it turns out, there are only three bedrooms. The master is bigger than the other two; not by a HUGE amount, but the fact that it has its own much nicer bathroom makes up for it (please picture Terra having to stoop to wash his hair in a tiny stall shower, and have a giggle with me). So there are two twin beds in the master, and Cloud and Zack share.

Terra gets his own room, but he has more traffic (so to speak). He has a twin bed and a futon crammed in, though there’s not enough room for the futon to fold down so it’s just a little couch. Usually it’s completely covered in laundry, but on the occasions that Ven is in town, he makes a nest on it. Aqua also stays the night fairly often, though she just squishes into the bed with Terra.

And Leon gets his own room because he’s the scary loner weirdo, basically. None of them knew him that well at first; he was just kind of some guy they scooped up to help pay the rent. So between that and Zack and Cloud being... Zack and Cloud, there was little to no debate as to how the bedroom situation would break down.

What if, when it snowed in Traverse Town, a bunch of the local kids were running around having snowball fights and stuff, and the Older-Kid-Adults-Talked-Into-"Supervising" was Leon? It might make an interesting mini KH1 parallel. Eventually, RGU boys get to talking about that time period and *It's a Small World playing in the distance*

I’m a little confused as to what you’re trying to say here? The main story is set in Twilight Town, not Traverse Town. Only the Strife twins (and Jehan) were ever living in Traverse Town; even Cloud was away living in the RGU dorms during that time period. Except for Xmas…. I suppose he came and crashed with his family over Xmas break. Is that what you mean? That Leon also randomly ended up in Traverse Town during that period for Xmas break? I mean I guess he doesn’t really have a backstory here yet, but… I dunno.

It’s sorta like the Maleficent thing. I could contrive something just for the sake of a parallel, but it doesn’t really interest me enough to do so. There are a lot of coincidences around here and it’s true that many amuse me a lot, but mostly it’s because they kinda really are coincidences? I wanted person A doing something #1 for a reason, I wanted person B doing something #2 for unrelated reasons, somehow something #1 and something #2 collided, so persons A and B did as well. Making up a random past event just for the sake of them going “hey we met before” doesn’t interest me. The actual past event has to interest me first. And Leon… man. Honestly there’s a lot more I should be doing with Leon but he’s just. So boring. I’m sorry, he’s really really boring to me. Where did he come from? What’s up with Rinoa? Why does he know Yuffie? What gave him the scar in this ‘verse? I dunno. I need someone to come over here and make me care >A>
