So, I was in my JORTC class ( I have it right after my Theatre class, so I was thinking about Mall Verse) and I was wondering if any of the kids are in a JROTC program? Did any of the high school graduates take JROTC? Does this continuum even have a Junior Reserve Officers Training Core program?

Someone brought this up about 7 months ago and sorry but I gotta stand by my statement, which was "To be entirely frank, I have no interest in the army being much of a thing beyond a few vague references among the college kids. *shrugs*"

So yeah, Zack and Leon were vaguely referenced as maybe doing something with ROTC, but don't expect anything more in-depth than this sentence.

What if, when it snowed in Traverse Town, a bunch of the local kids were running around having snowball fights and stuff, and the Older-Kid-Adults-Talked-Into-"Supervising" was Leon? It might make an interesting mini KH1 parallel. Eventually, RGU boys get to talking about that time period and *It's a Small World playing in the distance*

I’m a little confused as to what you’re trying to say here? The main story is set in Twilight Town, not Traverse Town. Only the Strife twins (and Jehan) were ever living in Traverse Town; even Cloud was away living in the RGU dorms during that time period. Except for Xmas…. I suppose he came and crashed with his family over Xmas break. Is that what you mean? That Leon also randomly ended up in Traverse Town during that period for Xmas break? I mean I guess he doesn’t really have a backstory here yet, but… I dunno.

It’s sorta like the Maleficent thing. I could contrive something just for the sake of a parallel, but it doesn’t really interest me enough to do so. There are a lot of coincidences around here and it’s true that many amuse me a lot, but mostly it’s because they kinda really are coincidences? I wanted person A doing something #1 for a reason, I wanted person B doing something #2 for unrelated reasons, somehow something #1 and something #2 collided, so persons A and B did as well. Making up a random past event just for the sake of them going “hey we met before” doesn’t interest me. The actual past event has to interest me first. And Leon… man. Honestly there’s a lot more I should be doing with Leon but he’s just. So boring. I’m sorry, he’s really really boring to me. Where did he come from? What’s up with Rinoa? Why does he know Yuffie? What gave him the scar in this ‘verse? I dunno. I need someone to come over here and make me care >A>

So my volleyball team in gym got named Squall, like the storm? But of course my first thought was "does Leon play volleyball?" Alternatively, do any of the college kids play sports?

I’m so glad my silly AU is interfering with people’s real lives :’D But uhhhhh I dunno. I guess I can see it as an “in today’s episode!” sort of thing? Like just for one weekend there’s an intramural tournament on campus, or sponsored by somebody’s workplace (where Tifa bartends probably, lbr), and somehow the RGU Gang gets roped into joining as a team (or two teams, if they demand boys vs. girls). And it’s beach volleyball. Or at the very least, everyone is required to be in very small shorts. :D

In general I guess some of them must do sports and stuff. I just don’t really care? If something good occurs to me, I’ll add it. Otherwise I can’t really be assed to wrack my brain and assign things. Though I was randomly thinking just the other day about the House Bros and how they compare at the gym. Terra can lift the most deadweight. But on the same lower setting, Zack wins for reps because he has more stamina (*eyebrow waggle*). And Ven is a speedy little bastard who can outsprint them all. (And none for Leon and Cloud bye)

Speaking of Leon. When I was in college, I made a very good friend named Moe. After being friends and occasional roommates for several semesters, I met her mother for the first time. She called Moe, “Maureen.” We all got a hearty laugh out of that because Moe is /SO/ not a “Maureen.” But then Moe told us that actually, she went by Maureen her whole life until college. We were kinda floored. I still can’t see her as “Maureen.”

So I’d been headcanoning that the RGU gang had no idea that Leon wasn’t his actual first name, and when they first found out he was actually SQUALL, they had a hearty laugh. Until of course he points out that “Cloud,” “Terra,” and “Ventus” have no goddamn right to talk about silly nature-based first names.

And then Zack whines about being left out.

Random idea for you to consider: Zack introducing Squall to Buster and Squall kind of bonds because his girlfriend has a similar dog so he kind of has a soft spot. While he's smiling and scratching Buster's ears, Zack's tryin to be cool but inside he's yelling "Why didn't I think of this sooner! It works on chicks so why wouldn't it work on dudes?? THIS IS MY IN!!! Look at him he's even happy! We can be BROS!"

TIL that Rinoa has a pet dog. Also I hope that Zack being desperately friendly isn't too offensively OOC because I'm really adoring it. He's like the Sora of the college crowd. A hyper-enthusiastic extrovert bowling over a crowd of sullen and dweeby peers, but in a totally endearing way. o//u//o

Leon being a random fourth-leaser is actually pretty perfect for an FFVIII-parallel since Squall a) doesn't believe in being close to people so he'd almost rather live with mostly strangers than friends so he won't grow attached, b) is basically incapable of saying "no" to people, so if he shared even one random class with Zack and mentioned looking for a place to live and Zack made him an offer, he wouldn't refuse and c) Squall always ends up surrounded by strange but friendly bros.

I’m so happy, that DOES sound perfect when you describe it :D

I need like 100% more semi-domestic college-bro shenanigans with these four STAT. Kitchen disasters and ill-advised drinking games and badly-planned DIY projects and THE PUPPY, I FORGOT TO EVER FINISH AND POST THE SAGA OF BUSTER GDI DAKT.

Squall/Leon doesn't meet Rinoa until a good 30 minutes into the game, they hang out for like 20 minutes, and then don't see each other for another hour of game. Then they're only business companions until like halfway through the game.
