Loz or Yazoo speaking of the other and implying they share a birthday, and the listener being like “Whoa, you’re twins?! Haha your poor mother!” because Loz is a frickin’ giant and Yazoo, while skinny, is also freakishly tall.
Im a little confused by the train station ficlet? Which brother was he waiting for and did he get ditched? Was he going to the hospital for his eyes or? Idk it was cute im just confused and probably rlly dumb
Nooo it’s not dumb at all, I actually already had a lengthy document going about all the missing pieces. Like I said, I had trouble figuring out how to fic this idea so I just took took a random piece out of the middle. Here’s the (extremely long oops) meta-y rest:
Notes on “Waiting,” that a more experienced writer would have found a way to incorporate. Or that just didn’t make it in because of the awkward slice of scene I cut. Whatevs.
Riku’s appointment at RGURH is for a surgery consultation or some preliminary tests or something. They still don’t know what’s causing his blindness at that point. Twilight Town has its own hospital (where Sora has been), but RGURH has fancier and more experimental stuff for, you know, research.
Cloud has been out to Twilight Town before now to visit Sora in the hospital. He just never crossed paths with Riku until now.
It’s a Friday. Cloud’s duffle bag is stuffed with clothes, textbooks, and his wheezy beast of a laptop, because he’s planning to spend the whole weekend at his mother’s.
I have no idea how long Riku has been waiting or what time it will be when Cloud gets the next train. I’m really terrible at space/time relationships. I want to say the ride from the RGU stop to the main TT station is about 20 minutes, factoring in the time it’s paused to load and unload passengers at both ends and at the mall-area stop between them. But I don’t know what the whole route is like, how many other stops it makes into Radiant Garden, if it runs on a loop all day or if there are two trains going back and forth on parallel tracks, if there’s longer waits depending on which direction you’re going in, etc. Damnit Jim, I’m a doctor not the Department of Transportation.
About a minute after Cloud and Riku round the corner out of sight, Kadaj shows up. True that he cuts it extremely close, but he’s not actually late. (Cloud and Riku’s conversation wasn’t that long. I guess the arriving train was scheduled for 4:25?) I need to back up.
This whole mess, at the heart of it, is Hojo’s fault. For one thing, he raised his sons to be an unhealthy mix of obedient and arrogant. They are expected to follow orders, and they expect their orders to those lower in ‘rank’ to be followed. And they Do Not ask for help. That’s weak. Originally, Hojo was supposed to meet Riku at the RGU stop. But of course something came up, so he delegated it to Sephiroth. He did not ASK if Seph could do it, he simply TOLD him to do it, and told Riku to expect Sephiroth. Never mind the fact that Seph has a class from 4 to 5. But honestly, Hojo doesn’t actually care if Seph specifically meets Riku or not. He just expects Riku to BE met, and is passing the buck of responsibility of ensuring such to Sephiroth. Who delegates Kadaj to do it. But doesn’t tell anyone that’s what he did. Because what could it matter? Riku was ordered to sit at the station and wait for his brother. Kadaj was ordered to be that brother. Two and two is four, also the sky is blue. These things will happen. Because I am Sephiroth The First Born and my orders Will Be Followed.
But Riku is nervous as hell, and feels like that kid whose mom left them alone with the cart at the register when it’s almost their turn. Seph is extremely punctual. If he’s not early, he’s late. But Riku can’t CALL him and ask if he’s still coming; that’s a breach of several protocols, including “don’t disrespect your oldest brother by insinuating he might be failing to do something Father told him to do” and “don’t be a whiny baby who needs his hand held”. Besides, Riku doesn’t particularly want to go to a surgery consultation. Maybe if no one shows up, I can miss it and it’ll be someone else’s fault…? It never really is, though. It’s always everyone’s fault. So when Cloud turns up, he can’t justify NOT taking the offer.
Since Riku is lower in ‘rank’ than Kadaj, it’s not an affront for Kadaj call him and demand his whereabouts. Except that Riku was never expecting Kadaj, so when his phone goes off with Kadaj’s ringtone, he ignores it. The fuck does Kadaj want? Who cares. Hate that guy.
As a final note, I have no idea how this tale ends. How long is Riku’s appointment? Does Cloud set up camp in the waiting room and take him back to the train station when he’s done? Does one or more other Crescent show up to collect Riku instead? Does Kadaj narrowly avoid getting his ass whooped by Sephiroth? Does Sephiroth narrowly avoid getting his ass whooped by Hojo?? All this and more will NOT be answered in tomorrow’s exciting episode! Because who knows what I’ll be interested in tomorrow.
More really late christmas asks!!! What kind of gifts do the more prickly characters (Rokuro, Saix, Vanitas, older Crescent bros, etc) give/receive?
Vantias hates everyone, so he finds ways to get out of giving anyone real gifts. Usually by claiming he’s too broke, but then mysteriously being able to afford a new Xbox for himself shortly after the holidays. Suzanne tries to give him something cute and homey but also useful, which he generally finds fault with or gives a sarcastic thank you for like: “Wow that’s a really nice [thing]. It would be great if I ever actually did [thing it’s used for].” His brother and cousins… idk just little consumables and neat trinkets that he complains about but complains more if he doesn’t get.
Tbh the Crescent bros probably just buy each other DVDs and cologne and neckties and shit to fulfill the obligation. And make their mother happy, more than anything. Sephiroth manages to make his seem condescending somehow. Yazoo gets everyone whatever the male term for “beauty products” is, also as an underhanded condescension XD Loz gets over-invested and like honestly thinks that the generic “gifts for him!” are great ideas that everyone really wants, and tries to make each one kinda special for each brother but in the end it’s like “I thought this color would go good with your eyes” “We all have the same eyes, dumbass” “…oh yeah.” And idk about Kadaj but whatever he does, he manages to routinely get away with giving the best one to Seph and the shittiest one to Riku. Like he’ll get everyone overly-complicated thermoses or some Skymall shit, and Seph’s is the most snazzy-looking and Riku’s is puke-colored. Not that Riku gives a shit. But. It makes Kadaj feel better. Rokuro might go for gag gifts, actually. In later years they’re actually funny and not just obnoxious, too.
Except for Namine; he is Captain Overkill for her so he buys her like, a huge box of really expensive copic markers or something and she’s like “♪ MY MIND’S TELLIN’ ME NO…” But he made her open it early and just requests that she draw something for him with them for Xmas oh noooo *dissolves into a blubbering pile of replinami goo*
What was the last one? Oh, Saix. Saix is very calculating, but he doesn’t know how to people. So he probably goes for gift cards :’D I mean, it is kind of the ultimate gift. And slightly manipulative?! You can see right on it exactly how much he’s willing to spend on you. But you also have the freedom to spend it however you like (within the limits of the store, obviously). He’s pretty finicky himself and has that “if you want something done right…” thing going on, so gift cards are what he’d want. Therefore everyone should realize what a great idea they are XD It’s never quite clear if he picked a particular store for a reason or not though. Sometimes he’s accidentally sweet in a really clumsy way. Like at some point before graduation I guess I’d like if he reconciled with Xion and Roxas to some extent. That whole “Seasalt family” dynamic. But his trains of thought are enigmatic, so Xion’s curiosity has to do battle with her surprise and wariness in order to ask why the hell he got her a giftcard to Home Depot. And he’s just like “You talk about those craft projects [cosplay] a lot. The materials have to come from somewhere right?”Just like, totally missing the more obvious things like a fabric store or an art/craft store. But still weirdly sweet. (Also you can actually get some great shit for cosplay at Home Depot okay.)
I dunno what he’d GET as gifts though. Axel is really good at friend trivia so he’s that guy that gets you something that’s small and silly but also somehow PERFECT and 100% keyed to you specifically. Which is the limit of me being able to fake talents for the sake of my characters so yeah noooooo clue what sorts of things those would be.
Speaking of kids hitting each other. I've talked before about the Crescent boys fighting, but I should have also mentioned sparring. I mean they do have nasty no-rules fistfights now and then because they're a damn bunch of hoodlums, but they also all do official MMA-type jud/kend/tae/karat/whateverjitsu and probably have a big fancy home gym in their basement with lots of mats and open space for kicking each other in the ribs training, the rich bastards. Seph probably just supervises mostly, and only steps in on occasion to completely thrash everyone and re-assert his authority. Mostly it's the twins and triplets fighting each other in various combinations. And the occasional game of "let's all try to topple Loz."
What if Kadaj tried growing his hair out and just kept getting frustrated with it? How much longer it takes to brush, the fact that he actually had to either cut his bangs or pin them away from his face, the fact that long hair is an absolute horror in the heat
Where's that comic of Zoku with girly hairclips because he's in the awkward stage of hair growth? :'D Maybe the triplets all have like, particularly static-y hair. I've established that Yazoo straightens via flat-irons and some kind of liquid chemical, and obviously Loz wears his short. The twins still have the thickest hair, but it falls in manageable locks more (when they bother to brush it, RIKU). Maybe the triplets just end up total fuzzballs past a certain length if they don't do something about it. And Kadaj is just like "fuck it" and just hacks the ends off when they start to fray. He ain't got no time for managing split ends n' shit.
