While speaking to a small business owner today, she mentioned that she is happy with the current status of her business and was Not looking to grow/ expand it. Her business is profitable; she wants it to maintain where it is because of her fears that if the business continued to grow she could NOT handle the expansion.
Expanding the business would require a slight change in her business operation to accommodate handling more clients. She would have to hire more employees. She would have to be more of a manager/overseer of the business and less of an employee in the business; she would have to trust that others can handle clients as well as she does. She would have to embrace change.
Every small business owner has to deal with these issues to grow. However, rather than avoiding them, you should plan for them while starting your business..
As I told her, “Being comfortable with the status of where you business is and NOT trying to make it grow will only cause it to become stagnant then decline”. Small business mind = small business moves. Big business mind = BIG BUSINESS MOVES.
You’re business will never win in the long-run by remaining in it’s current state. Continued success requires continuous growth; continued growth requires continuous change. Embrace it!
