Jeb was glad that he’d gotten out on bail before Valentine’s Day. If he hadn’t, he’d have more than just his son to make it up to. It was easy to forget how it affected Selene when his mind was permanently fixed on Teddy, so he’d promised to make it up to her by bringing her - and his son, of course, who seemed permanently glued to his hip - to the event. Of course, the addition of Teddy meant that they wouldn’t be going on any of the couple rides, but he didn’t mind that.
Something that had caused a minor disagreement before they’d left was whether he was to thank Clara for what she’d done for him. His girlfriend insisted that he should, though, and Jeb wasn’t wanting to upset or annoy her after what had happened. He decided it would be best to therefore approach her off-duty, and he spotted her somewhere in the crowd of the fair.
He clutched Teddy’s hand - whose other hand was occupied by a mountain of cotton candy that was far too big for him - and made his way over to the police officer, knowing that Selene was keeping an eye on the situation. He was told that he needed to be genuine (which in a way he was genuinely thankful), so he swallowed his pride before making his way over to her.
“Hey,” he muttered, avoiding eye contact, “I just wanted to say thanks.” It was possibly the most sincere he’d ever been with a police officer. It wasn’t exactly in a friendly tone, but the fact that he’d said ‘thanks’ was more appreciation than ever to a member of law enforcement. Teddy beamed up at the woman, waving. “Hi,” he said, the two year old sounding a lot more friendly than his father.
