You know what would have been simultaneously worse and better than Sirius dying in OOTP?

Sirius breaking under the weight of his own trauma/years of psychological torture and being unable to change out of dog form (I know there’s a spell but assume he’d just freak out and turn back) and he just…stays like that. Like forever. Straight up never recovers
