the cold autumn wind rustled unhurriedly past the crowns of the trees on sohee’s street, leaves drumming hollowly against one another, loudly, far too loud for the ears of a newborn vampire to properly take; her hands instinctively flinched to curl around her waif body in an attempt to secure a warmth that had escaped her years ago. it was an irrational action, more of a habit than anything else - and she had habits, quite a few of them, motions that she didn’t need per say, blinking, breathing, the stroke of her fingers at her neck, searching for a pulse. she had thought she’d get used to their absence. in reality, she really didn’t.
tonight felt different than the rest of the nights, tonight felt dangerous, forbidden, as if the moment her boots clicked in place against the pavement she had strayed from the righteous path. and sohee was never righteous, like real righteous people are, but then again her canines never actually hurt before, and it was starting to scare her. she swallowed something heavy stuck in her throat, perhaps guilt - it wouldn’t really be fine to cancel on minji at the last minute, would it be? sohee was just being paranoid again. that’s what she told herself, while she called over a cab.
in retrospect she should’ve turned back immediately the moment the driver inside morphed from a proper human being, into a figure of pulsing blood, but it’s fine, she said, and leaned back against her seat. blood lust was not something she planned to succumb to, not after she had promised herself to master a proper grip upon it; especially not when it was standing in her way of finally building a proper life. the ride took less than she anticipated. she payed extra despite herself.
the club before her had been the talk of the town, with it’s shimmering doors and bright neon linings, letters boldly placed atop its roof, knifing steadily through the night - “blue moon”, they spelled, in their luxuriously curved characters. sohee could smell expensive off the building from miles away, but she had money to spend, and time to let herself revel in life, an oddly favorable situation on it’s own; today, she swore, she wanted to enjoy herself. perhaps she even felt deserving.
when sohee spotted minji midst the crowd of men and women, flocking with urgency towards the still sealed entrance of the club, she should’ve smiled, waved, anything to get her attention. instead of happiness though, her mind was flooded with a sense of suffocation; suddenly, the air was thick, humid with the sticky smell of blood, her view swirling in a whirlpool in front of her. it took her a shameful amount of time until she managed straighten herself out and gather enough courage to face the other, trying not to bump shoulders with the rest.
“hi,” she finally mustered, lips swaying in a half-forced smile, “sorry, if i kept you waiting… took me a while to get ready. you didn’t stay out in the cold too long, right?” since when did minji smell so alluring? “ah, anyway. tonight’s girls night. let’s just enjoy ourselves. plus, i heard some pretty good things about this place.”
