// You know what? Looking back on how I approached YGO... It’s no wonder I felt completely burned out from it, after one year of getting into it. The fact I’m avoiding and not engaging with any form of discourse, it is contributing to my stay in the SW fandom! Which is something I wasn’t expecting, in a first instance (I was quite intimidated by this community NGL).
It just goes to show how unnecessary drama/discourse, can ruin one’s experience in a place that is supposed to be about fun and distractions. I’m here to enjoy the show, celebrate the characters and run into folks who share my interests. As such, I’ve found many welcoming folks around here! I’m genuinely having a good time here. And that’s the most important thing, for any fandom.
// I’m always very self-conscious about my writing, due to not being native in English. I’m always concerned people won’t understand me, and vice versa due to my grasp on the language. I know I’ve received over the years, a huge amount of support and so many kind words, praising my writing. And I’m always thankful for them, but it’s a feeling I can never truly shake off.
Especially not after having so many instances, of people taking full advantage of that fact, and try to twist the things I said. Just because ‘oh but this is what I understood out of what u said uwu’. These situations are the worst for me, because as a non-native speaker, you’re more inclined to believe those who naturally speak the language. And unfortunately, I got burned by that thought process, one too many times.
Sometimes, there are people out there who don’t want to help you fix a grammatical/voccabulary mistake. They just want you to say what they think is the right thing to say, and that’s what we call pushing an agenda/propaganda/narrative down our throats. That’s toxic, that’s wrong, that’s dangerous. Drop that shit, and stop taking advantage of our genuine English mistakes.
19. On icon/gif/image use.
// I agree, it’s very silly the fact that the RPC seems to prioritize the visual aspects, in a hobby that’s all about writing. I’m sure that if I didn’t have half of the graphics I do today, I doubt I’d have people looking at my blog. But that’s the state of a good chunk of the RPC, which doesn’t represent it at all.
I personally don’t care about the graphics, that’s not a deciding factor on whether or not I’ll follow someone. My only real problem is when people use fanarts, for their edits. I’m glad that nowadays, we’re abandoning that in favor of FC alternatives and the fact that there are many icon resource blogs. Because back in 2016-2017, the art theft was rampant. So much so, I even partook in it. Simply because, I assumed it was alright because, everyone around me did it. I’m not proud of what I did, but I’m glad I got over that, and abandoned the use of others’ fanarts.
Now I have an even bigger problem, when people HEAVILY edit the original fanart. Fuck whoever does that, those people have zero respect for content creators. I doubt that whoever took it had the artist’s blessinjg to use, in the first place. And I'm sure that any artist wouldn’t be happy to find their work, edited to such an extent, it barely resembles the final piece they posted in their social medias. All because ‘uwu I want it to fit my muse’s looks uwu’. And the audacity, they have to pull the ‘don’t steal my edits plzzzz’. Bitch ur entire “edit” is just stolen artwork, u don’t own the “base” you’re using.
