My Gal and Verity
I think the usage of a love song for Verity's theme is really interesting especially when you look at the lyrics. The song is My Gal by Niklas Gabrielsson which tells the story of a singer who loves this woman who does not act in the stereotypical woman behavior that is expected of her. The song states that this woman is "not a dame nor a lady/Not in the way she walks" or "The way she talks" and how "Her manners and her language/Makes a grown man sweat and blush!" but the singer loves her for those traits. Besides just being a really good song it is about love that is rooted in genuine connection and mutual appreciation...something Verity lacks. I mean Mob was the first player to ever come back for Verity, I think that says enough about how Verity probably never had any solid connection with previous players before. I believe this song is used for explaining Verity's wants. Verity wants to be loved and have someone that can care for him as much as he would care for them back, someone who would ignore Verity's unhuman traits and background, someone who will love him just like the singer loves his gal.
