My soon to turn 4 year old niece now wakes up in the morning and asks her mom for a video call to see me, she hears her mom recording me voice notes and shouts " I miss you, I love you, sisty" (yes she calls me the same thing her mom calls me because she doesn't understand the concept of an aunt, she thinks that's my actual name), before going to the nursery she asks her mom to take pics of her outfit and show them to me.. and this is such a incredible thing for me because her mom never trained her or asked her or taught her to do that. She just woke up one day and decided she is voluntarily ready to love me, even from a distance, even if she hasn't seen me in months, even if she actually only saw me face-to-face for a week in her entire life, and I couldn't be any more grateful. Kids are magical I swear. And this morning, on video call I told my sister " I swear to God your daughter is worth the +5k it takes to go back home in the summer, all just to see her face and hang out with her" and the little cute thing squeezing her head in the camera goes " samahniiiiiii " even if she rarely ever speaks Tunisian. Ugh. I've been an aunt my whole life, my first niece was born one month before I had turned 10, and after +20 years in the aunthood, I can positively say that nothing compares to being this little hamster's " sisty ". 🥹🥹🤍
