*    headcanon:   all might & deku’s quirk.     so i’ve been thinking about this a lot,  and here are just a few notes to clear up the confusion.   the references i used are from here and here.   this fact may change in the future as canon material updates !

#                    so,  obviously,  neither all might nor deku has ever publicised “ one for all ” as their quirk.   the only canon characters who were made aware of these are:   gran torino,  sir midnight,  naomasa tsukauchi,  david shield,  bakugou katsuki,  possibly even nedzu,  and the selected staff in UA academy ( although i’m not sure to what extent does nedzu and the staff really know i.e. whether from the first history etc  )

#                    as far as the public is concerned,  all might didn’t really “lose” his power.   that’s just not common in the quirk society,  i believe.   he’s retired because he’s severely injured,  and the injury has actually aggravated to the point that he can’t risk being in a battle like he always has.

#                  before,  all might’s quirk is considered and named “super power” or “superhuman abilities”.   this is actually not that uncommon,  especially on international waters  ( the reason why i debated making captain america and/or superman a canon character in bnha ) ,  but all might is slightly different too because his goal to become a “symbol” sets him apart.

#                  it is because of said goal that he manages to harness his superhuman abilities to an overwhelming strength,  which in return cultivates this really outstanding and powerful aura when he did emerge as the symbol of peace.  but like,  yeah,  it’s just honestly a superhuman abilities quirk.  to compare:  more than superman ( who has x-ray visions, can shoot lasers from his eyes,  even flying as an ability ),  all might is like captain america, a supersoldier,  but his powers is potentially tenfold from effort alone.

#                  as far as the public is concerned,  deku is also officialise as having a “superhuman abilities” quirk.  (  in canon,  he writes it as “super power”  )  i’m not sure how he will have to explain when he receives the rest of the prior one-for-all user quirks — which is interesting,  cause instead of captain america,  he’s really growing to be on par with superman?  — but yeah, for now, that’s what the general public knows.

#                  also,  to explain,  i don’t think all might really “transformed” ( that would be the descriptive word i would use to interpret it though ) so one for all doesn’t really fall under the “transformation quirk” type.  you could also see evident of this if you observe toshinori when he’s much younger:  he never transformed from a skinny version of himself vs. his super powered version.  it’s the result of his grave injury:  i think “ one for all ” merely stores all of the power and toshinori learnt to maximise it during specific event of time.  rather than transformation,  i think it’s just toshinori successfully manipulating his quirk which, hell yeah, is cool af.

#                 i’ll talk about toshinori’s health in another post but to note:  while he’s retired and has lost majority power of one-for-all,  toshinori isn’t completely defenceless.  i do think he’s still quite a powerful opponent ?  especially if it’s hand-to-hand combat.  and he still has traces of one-for-all that can help him minimally boost a punch or a kink or a jump ( though not much else ).  still,  toshinori in general is still walking around with a heavy injury so - it’s not a good idea to have him fight intensively unless you want him to keel over and suffer internal bleeding.
