And all the windows of my heart I open to the day.
John Greenleaf Whittier, My Psalm, 1859
Be sure that my heart doesnt stray from you, Jesus, my King.
Only You are worthy.
Only You are true.
Everything else in this world is false.
When You act, when this world faces destruction and desolation, who will stand?
Who could fight?
No one. Only You.
My heart is fearful of Your wrath and of Your chastise.
But my heart grows glad in Your rejoicing over me.
Lead me to Your still waters. Lead me to Your joy again.
Bring me back safely to the place where I belong.
Close to your heart. Close in sight.
My brain sucks right now but the closest I have ever been to committing to a tattoo.
My Psalm
I love the Psalms. King David is such a great role model for us Christians. And do you know the best part of his story? He wasn’t perfect and sinned just like the rest of us. I’ve always respected that about God; that he didn’t omit the not so glamorous aspects of David’s life from the bible (or any biblical character for that matter). If he did happen to leave that part out, how…

My Lament
This weekend, I went on a retreat where we studied the Psalms. At the end, Kenny challenged each of us to write our own lament, a psalm that cries out for God's help. This is mine:
My God, My God, why have you foresaken me?
Why have you left me alone to ponder my misery?
Why have you left my mind as a God-forsaken place?
What have I done?
My God, I am helpless, hopeless, grasping for air
I've lost my stability, my ability to cope
Like a glass jar set ever so carefully on the counter top
Only to shatter as it's carelessly knocked from it's perch onto the tile floor
Once perfection, my life's now splintered, broken, exploded into a million invisible fragments of pain that pierce my soul as I struggle to clean the displaced pieces
My God, he used to hang the stars, now he simply hangs lies
And now I'm lost in a swirling sea of incomplete facts
I don't feel Your comfort, Lord, and I don't see your face.
Your hands have departed from my heart,
And your arms no longer surround me
But in my pain, I see Your plan, and I will trust in You
Lord, rescue me from this place
Pick me up from the banks of Sheol
And set me atop Your eagle wings
Become my Stability, and my Rock
Deliver me from myself, bring me back to You
Set a fire under my affliction
Let him burn from Your Righteousness
Deliver justice
Bring down Your iron fist and purge
His heart from wickedness
Deliver mercy
Let not punishment solely be the end of him, but the end of him and beginning of You
Lord, send your strongest angels to combat for his soul
Don't leave him unsaved
Lord, through all of this, all the uncertainty, all the lies, I will rely on one thing: your faithfulness
I will sing it from the rooftops; I will shout it from the trees
No park bench shall be void of Your great name
The stars will twinkle their agreement as I extol your name past the Heavens
For You alone are sovereign
And
You alone are good
Mid-Throat
God!
rings the pleading voice of my despair,
tied with rapid understanding of,
our death.
Take the valor!
Take the rhyme!
Let it dissolve in the all -
the misguided intelligence of humankind -
and with it rip out my pride.
For the words suddenly halt,
and air is the reason why!
no embellished minds
no talented tongues
no rampant fingertips can,
save me.
Here in the darkness of my mind,
within the tumble of my sanity,
I plead,
once more,
for my soul's sake.
I tried.
I failed.
and here comes the brink,
the cutting edge ,
it gets caught in mid-throat -
But you are,
no shame
no hate
and you are my lord! -
God!
My Psalm series: While at the red light
Justified are the sins of man
But God's reprimand -
Whose breath he gave for trust
And his flesh pierced for love -
They slander and vile his name
For how easy it is to forget
That bones of dust they came
And a soul's home is heaven or hell.
My Psalm
Lord of Heaven I'm longing for You In this desperate state Of need and desire
Oh for a drop Of Your heavenly rain My dearest Lord lift me From this broken aptitude Place my feet on Zion Restore to me Your peace Let this bitter cup spill And drain away into the abyss Cover over me with You A blanket if restfulness And let me sleep Let me sleep
Dry my tears Lord Jesus For you are my Love
My Beloved come to rescue My armor is like a child's toy But Yours is of the sun Brilliant, shining and beautiful Your arm is strength As I rest my head upon it
Oh Redeemer and Conqueror How I love You How my soul longs to stay forever In the arms of my Savior
