Mark on the Door

~A spell to guide loved ones home to you safely~

What you’ll need:

a pen/ marker/ scribe (something to write the rune with)

paper, rock, a part of your door or a brick on your house (if you want to permanently inscribe the rune)

a white or blue candle

protection incense or oil (i prefer basil for everything. It’s a versatile herb and a strong personal preference :P)

What to Do

Cleanse and prepare yourself, meditate, shower, whatever your process is for spell preparation.

Wash your door or house (if you’re marking on them directly) to rid of opposing energies.

First we pour energy into the writing utensil or tool.

Light the candle(s) and incense, focusing on the light from the candle. See it in your mind as a light in the window guiding your loved ones home.

Hold the utensil near the flame and in the smoke of the incense, holding that image of a ‘guiding light’ in your mind.

There are several ways to do the next part of the spell. I will cover a few in detail For this spell I used the elder futhark rune Ingwaz (this is just a scribble)

Method 1: The Rune Stone

Continue from step #3: Take the stone you wish to mark with the rune, cleanse it, and focus on it as if it is a light to be turned on and off. Charge it in the heat of the candle and the smoke of the incense, mark whatever symbol you wish on it to ‘seal’ the magic into the stone. Place the stone near your door (though I recommend outside) and whenever you need to guide a loved one, or anyone, to your home, turn it on, as if lighting a candle of turning on a light. The charged rune acts as a light in the window.

Method 2: The Rune Paper

Similar to the above, continue from step #3. Take the paper or hanging object you wish to mark, and likewise cleanse it. Place your mark on it, imagining this one as a kind of neon sign to be seen. Just like the stone, this one you can turn on and off, or when it is not in use, place it in a folder to keep the magic contained to the paper. Hang it up either where you can see it, or where those seeking to find your home will see it (in a window or on the door.)

Method 3: A Rune on the Door

This is the method I’ve done, and it has worked well for me. Again, continue from step #3. This time, I used a nail to carve the rune into the door, near the door handle, and then painted over it with the same color paint as was already on the door. You can do as I did, to conceal the rune, or if you’re feeling froggy, you can etch the rune into your door and leave it unpainted, or draw it on the door with marker of different colored paint. This rune doesn’t work as a switch like the others. This one sill simply be ‘on’ at all times. You can recharge or add strength to it when necessary. I tend to charge mine with a candle and incense near the door once or twice a month (during my monthly magical maintenance-another post for another time)

All of these are methods of the same spell. A kind of guiding light. I have performed all of these in my decade and a half practice, and found that they work well, for me. I hope the same for you, as well as many merry meetings and safe returns!

•⋩ Making my first pentagram

I made a pentagram for my altar during the New moon in the beginning of this July and I thought I’d share the process with you. I went completely on intuition on this one, not following any spell or rulebook but I’m really happy with how it turned out!

So first I needed some wood and I decided on Rowan/Mountain Ash. I found a beautiful tree near the lake and I asked to take some of it’s branches for my pentagram. When I asked I got this big wind in my back coming from the lake and the sun peered through the treetops right at us. Needless to say I took that as a strong yes. (I went back three times after to leave offerings and to thank it. This is not neccessary but it felt nice to do.)

When I sat down to begin my ritual I had:

Rowan wood - Divination, healing, protection from evil, peace, creativity, success, change & transformation.

Blueberries - Tranquility, peace, protection and prosperity.

Heather - Protection, rain and luck.

Red clover - Lust, hex breaking, prosperity, purification, love, luck, protection, success, fidelity and comfort.

Lemon - Purification, protection and health.

Sea water - Cleansing, purification, banishment, inner peace, relaxation.

Sandalwood incense - Clairvoyance, divination, good luck, meditation, protection, success

 and cotton string. As you may have noticed there’s a theme in the correspondences: Protection, prosperity, purification and luck; which is exactly what I wanted for this. Red clover was a nice addition with the comfort, lust, love and fidelity as my altar is next to me and my partner’s bed so all these “ingredients” works together just perfectly for this.

Okay, so here’s what I did:

1.To begin I cast a circle, lit some sandalwood incense and took three deep breaths.

2. I used a mortar and pestle to mash up the blueberries making a nice paste.

3. I then cut off as much cotton string as I’d need to bind the pentagram and mixed it with the blueberries in the mortar to dye it a natural reddish purple.

4. I poured seawater in a glassbowl and added the lemon to cleanse the string and then I left it out to dry in the sun.

5. I took the string and bound the wood into a pentagram while focusing on my intent. I tied off every “point” with three knots.

6. Alternating between the two I bound heather and red clover onto two of the branches, again tying it off with three knots.

7. Now I know not everyone will be comfortable with this but I finished by pricking my finger with a clean needle and touching the pentagram gently thus binding it to me.

8. I brought it back and forth over the incense smoke, took a deep breath and opened the circle.

Now this is not a How to make a pentagram, I am way too inexperienced to be making any of those. This is just how I did it and it was something I felt I wanted to share. Maybe someone can find some inspiration for their own or maybe for something completely different! Anyway I am very happy with how it went and turned out and once my altar isn’t such a mess I’ll make sure to take a photo of how it looks in place.

Super Simple “Call Me” Spell

This is my favorite, most simple, and most popular spell. The goal of this spell is to get a particular person or entity to contact you via phone call, email, text, etc. Believe it or not this is a great spell during the Mercury Retrograde. While it does muddy up communication, it is also a time for us to stop and revisit old messages. If you are trying to reconnect with someone this is a great time to do it.

Supplies Needed*:

Brown paper bag

Light blue pen

Additional Optional Supplies

Magical oil (come to me, attraction, etc)

Best Timing: Wednesdays, Waxing or Full Moons, Mercury Retrogrades

Step 1: Create your petition paper

Take your piece of paper and rip it into a small square that is big enough to write on. Ensure that there are no machine cut edges on it. Begin the petition by writing the Target’s name and birthday 3 times going down the paper. If you are trying to get a call from an entity like a business, school, government, etc use the company name along with their address

Next turn the paper 90 degrees to your right and write across their name 3x the phrase “CALL ME” going down. You can be more specific and say “TEXT ME”, “SNAP ME”, “E-MAIL ME” etc but call me works as a general term for contact.

Turn the paper another 90 degrees to the right and sign your name directly across theirs 3x going down. This is to directly impose your will onto them.

Annoint the petition with any oils you want and fold the paper towards you.

Step 2: Visualize and set your intention

Hold the petition in your hard and pray over it. Fully visualize what you wish to happen: Visualize the notification on your phone screen, the sound of your ringtone and their name on the caller ID, visualize their message and what you want it to say; visualize it all in great detail and push that energy into the petition and out into the universe. Will it to be.

Step 3: Put the petition wherever you wish to receive the message. You can put it inside of your phone case, tape it to your computer, or inside of your mailbox if you are expecting physical mail. Now forget about it.

Step 4: If applicable, make an effort to reach out to them again. Magic is only a helper. Send them a message and see if that inspires them to respond. If this is to get back a lover I suggest against doing that - let them come to you. 

*Remember that all materials can be substituted. You can use printer paper if you don’t have a paper bag, a blue pen if you don’t have light blue, etc. The importance is that you visualize your goal and put your intentions into it.

New Years Spell

I did a quick little spell this new years right at midnight to bring in good magic for the new year! All you need is a newspaper or magazine from 2017, matches, and some sort of safe place to burn it.

Place the newspaper (I put it in my fireplace stove) and light it. Then say the following prayer:

<i>As the old year burns to the ground, may the new year rise from its ashes and bring good fortune and happiness to me and mine</i>

or some variation of that! Then, if you do it in a potbelly stove like i did, literally close the door on the old year and metaphorically embrace the new.

As it is a fire spell, and I did the burning in my fireplace, I dedicated the prayer to Hestia, but I would think it would work even without a dedication.

Radagast's Protection

-A spell to protect a person, object, or place from foul magic or ill intent-

You will need:

Basil: either chopped in a bottle, fresh leaves or dried (I prefer fresh sweet basil leaves)

a small bottle or jar (that can be corked or sealed)

a clear quartz crystal (small enough to fit in your bottle)

patchouli incense

earth colored candles: Browns, greens or white

something representing who or what you are protecting (ie a picture, jewelry, a stone or dirt from the place)

a small piece of oak bark

a small pine twig with needles

What to Do:

Prepare yourself and your work space as necessary. Meditate, ground, cast a circle etc. whatever your practice calls for.

Light the candles and incense. Set the representational item in front of them.

Take the crystal in your hand. Focus very hard on it, and on what you want to protect. Visualize your energy, your will to keep it safe filling the crystal. Place it in the bottle/ jar and say “By will of mine, and crystal’s power. You are safe now, in this hour” Then place the crystal in the bottle/ jar

Take the bark and pine together and do the same, but say “By needle of pine, and oak divine, You are safe in days to come.” Then place them in the bottle/ jar

Take the Basil and do the same, but say “By Basil sweet, go forth renewed, And let my magic watch over you.” Then place the Basil in the bottle/ jar

Keep the container somewhere you will remember it and recharge it or replace the ingredients whenever you feel the need, for as long as you want the person, place or thing protected. image

Simple Cleansing & Empowering Spell for the Full Moon

I do this spell to cleanse myself and my room during the full moon. I do it before I start physically cleaning. I also go over my room with sage cleansing spray (a substitute for smoke)

Supplies

White candle

3 garlic cloves

Salt

Sage oil/spray

Carve into the candle “PURIFY CLEANSE EMPOWER”. Annonit with sage oil

Melt the candle onto a fire safe plate. Around the plate add salt. Bless & empower the salt to cleanse and purify you and your surroundings.

Add 3 cloves of garlic - one for the mind, one for the body, and one for the spirit. Puncture each clove with your nail 13 times. If you don’t have garlic cloves, garlic powder from your kitchen also works. Empower the garlic to rid you and your surroundings of all negativity, dark energy and forces, and harmful magic worked against you.

Light the candle and envision it cleansing you and the area around you such as your altar, room, or entire house.

Snuff the candle before it gets too close to the salt if it’s not in a candle holder. Wrap the remnants of the spell in a white napkin and dispose of in the outside trash.

Photo from over a week ago or so...

Went outside across the street to collect some natural local wildflowers, put them in a leftover microwavable bowl with some salt, and then finally wrote an incantation invoking all my gods who care about me (especially Sekhmet-Bast and Hekate) on a piece of paper I then folded up and placed on top of it all. It is sitting upon my kitchen counter, where my cats never hop up onto.
