#my year abroad

increasingly absurd ways ive tried to rationalise my anxiety about my year abroad:

- if sunset shimmer can live in an alternate universe and get away with it, i won't get arrested at customs

- at least im not rumi kpdh

- if i get arrested and deported then so be it

- if i get arrested at the airport I'll shake the bars and demand my release and drag a cup against the bars while my dad watches on

- at least i will have mario odyssey hide and seek videos if all else fails

- if all else fails i can fall down the stairs before i get on the plane

- if all else fails i can fake my death

- it will all be okay and im panicking about nothing and I'll speak the target language fluently and mask my autism perfectly and I'll get all the official moving to another country stuff done with no complications and also the staff won't ask me to drink beer with them :D

If you think about it, most persons, including many of those who say they love you, can't help but question your particular coordinates in whatever you're doing or thinking or hoping for, then want to realign you to function more smoothly in their eyes and thereby calm their fretful souls.

it’s going okay so far - I mean my french skills definitely need some work bc everyone keeps switching to english with me and I’m a bit scared to go and order food and stuff but ! my listening skills are definitely already getting more tuned into what people are saying !! the weather is so nice and there’s so much to do so hopefully I won’t die any time soon :)

"I hate the smell of peaches."

We're sitting outside a frozen yoghurt shop down the street from an apartment I have lived in for less than a week and he has filled his cup up with a sickly sweet reminder of last summer.

His laugh is almost infectious.

He is smiling when he asks,

"And why is that?"

I put down my own creation of coconut and caramel because I don't want him to see my hands shaking and the silence is lasting longer than it should and I know I should say something but he still has on that care-free summer smile.

How do I say,

"Ripe peaches remind me of the clothes hidden in my suitcase that I didn't find till late November and how you left without a note on a sticky summer night."

How do I say,

"Ripe peaches remind me of the week I turned 21 in a city without him and I was so sick of international flights and heartbreak that I couldn't get out of bed for four whole days."

How do I say,

"Ripe peaches remind me that all things sweet eventually rot."
