hi! i’m not-so-new to the studyblr community and now’s the only time i’ve thought of writing up a proper introductory post (oops?). i created this studyblr to keep myself motivated to finish strong this academic year as a high school senior!

more on why i created this blog i really wanted to join this community since seeing a facebook friend’s shared post on cute borders to add onto your notes (if we wanna go to the very beginning, i suppose), but i truly am an unruly student who is trying to better her study habits. the studyblr community has been and still is a beautifully thriving community that does not discriminate/degrade anyone, and it feels like a safe space to really express yourself. booms, i’m here for it. posts to expect a few stationery and muji hauls, attempts to commit to the 100 days of productivity and the 30 day studyblr challenges, grade 12 humss notes (btw, kung stem ka, pahingi naman ng notes :<), planner inspiration, its and bits of calligraphy, sometimes my face(?) and tiny masterposts studyblrs that i ~casually~ adore @emmastudies  / @studyquill / @studypetals / @studyrose / @studywithinspo / @studyign / @studyblr / @cwote don’t be afraid to come chat about anything under the sun with me, i’m honestly looking for some friends. radiate light.

Hello to the Studyblr community!

My name’s Kris, and I’m 15 and a sophomore in high school. I graduate in 2019! I started this blog to improve my habits and lifestyle. This year, my school decided to make some drastic changes to the day’s schedule, and it’s my first year for taking AP’s; it’s so poorly organized and my class is taking the worst end of the stick! I decided to take the initiative to make friends here and learn some new things to cope with it :)

The school I’m attending offers the IB Diploma Program (but I’m still unsure whether or not I want to take it). One of my goals is to fix and develop my skills so I can tackle this kind of curriculum. As of now, I’m not really sure if I can do it, but I’m trying. I believe I can get there :D

10 ways to read more

If you’re like me and you made reading more a resolution for the New Year, here are some tips for hitting those goals!

1.   Remember you don’t need to finish every book you started!

2.    Read what you want! Don’t force yourself to read something you don’t want to. If you received a book as a gift and you just aren’t in the mood to read it, don’t force yourself! If you want to read a magazine, a book of poetry, a self-help book, a textbook, etc. – go for it! Reading for pleasure is exactly that – pleasure! You can even skim through the book if you don’t feel like reading too in-depth. On the other hand, if it’s your book, you can annotate and mark all over it. You’ll read the book more thoroughly, and you’ll have a reference if the work is ever an assigned reading. (I like to do this with poetry since the meaning can just pass by you sometimes while you read the pretty words!)   3.    Always have something to read. Never go anywhere without something to read – you can always find some downtime! In-between classes, on the bus, waiting in a doctor’s office, etc. You can bring your paperback or take advantage of the computer in your pocket and download some ebooks to your smartphone.     4.    Read 20 pages everyday. 20 pages is small enough that it’s not intimidating. If you can’t read first thing in the morning, make sure to set aside some time each day to finish your goal. For example, you might want to read each night before bed as a way to wind down and prepare for sleep (just make sure you’re not using an e-reader – this will interrupt your circadian rhythm!) By separating your reading into smaller chunks, you’ll definitely feel less pressure to stick with a book that’s a few-hundred pages long. Find some time to collect your thoughts and prepare yourself to sit down and read.   5.    Keep a list of the books you’ve read. This is great way to motivate yourself! You can recommend books or go back and read ones that you really enjoyed. Who doesn’t enjoy a list of things they’ve accomplished?

6.    If you have the ability to, read multiple books at a time in case you get bored easily. I personally don’t like to read multiple books at a time (even though I do anyway) because I find myself forgetting characters and parts of the plot. If you’re motivated with visuals, keep a few books around to remind you of your goals. However, if you find that you just become overwhelmed at the sight of books all around when you haven’t even finished your first book, place some books on-hold at the library or create a list of the books you’ll read next. 7.    Share what you read. Teaching is the best way to learn. Turn your book into a conversation: what do you like about it? Who is your favorite character?  What do you think will happen next?

8.    Listen to books – this is great for when you need to do menial tasks like cleaning or dishes and you want to keep yourself engaged. You can find lots of audio-books on either YouTube or Audible.

9.    Buy cheap. Amazon has tooooooooons of e-books under a dollar. And you can also find physical copies for cheap! I just bought a poetry book for $1 and free shipping (because of a free Prime membership). In addition, if you like classic literature, definitely check out Amazon’s free classic section or Project Gutenburg.   10.   Look for recommendations at your local library, studyblrs, GoodReads, etc. And branch out not only in genre, but also in culture and background of the author! My local library has a book club, where each month we read select a book either about a certain country or whose author is from that country. It’s great to see different perspectives especially since so many of our popular authors come from the US!

I’m officially on a summer break tho I need to review and prepare for the upcoming college entrance exams. I’ve been enjoying the break so far; I’m almost done with a series! LOL
