Life is chaos rn but I went on a very scenic long run today and my new running buddy is a photographer, which shows in both the number and quality of pictures taken on any run, plus I think the minor injury that's been keeping me from running as much as I'd like to is finally on the mend. Altogether, I felt this needed celebrating so here you go.

Absolutely savaged myself for how hard and terrible this run felt but then I sat down by the river for a bit and remembered…

1. It’s my first outdoor/trail run since last autumn

2. I haven’t ran in 2 weeks and only been able to run 4 times this month due to injuries (tendonitis in my knee and some minor shin splints)

3. I’ve had 0 appetite and haven’t eaten a proper meal in a week for god knows what reason

4. I’ve only been back running for a bit over 2 months anyway

So, of course it felt hard. But 2 miles nonstop with all that in mind isn’t too bad 🥳

My new shoes first run! I was supposed to do interval training today, but because it was my first run in a new pair of shoes I swapped it out for a 5k instead.

It went pretty good, I’m liking these new shoes so far (but I am a massive new balance fan girl). I’ll give them a few weeks and see how they go. The real test will be my long run on Saturday.

Also, how much do you guys typically spend on socks? Because this is the first time I’ve bought socks from a shoe store (usually Kmart haha). They were $30 a pair, but Omg. They were next level. No blisters! I’m so glad I got two pairs. They are like wrapping your feet in little clouds. For anyone who wants to know, they’re evolution light feet socks!

Everybody comes home from the gym and makes a pizza, right??! (Don’t judge the toppings, I have a toddler and I also have toddler preferences 😅) 🍕🍍

Completely amazed that my body let me run half an hour today given that I’ve been really ill for 8/9 days. It was only 2 days ago that I was having to lie down after going to the shop 🙄

Definitely not back to normal yet because my strength was way down when I did the gym this morning and then my heart rate was up to 180 within the first few minutes of running whereas it normally only gets there towards the end.

Can’t wait to feel better again, I’m over it.

I know I’m banging on but I actually cannot get over how iron tablets have taken me from barely able to stand up for an hour to being able to run for 45 mins straight (albeit slowly)

This is also my first post long Covid and post partum 5K. Can’t even remember the last time I ran 5K but it must be 6/7/8 years ago.

Feels like a milestone 🥲

A good weekend. Got murdered by a very hot long run (not complaining about the return of proper summer weather but boy did it take me by surprise) on Saturday morning, then went to spend about 18 hours in zurich to see two of my besties. Worth it.

Life lately & yet another attempt to return to posting on tumblr. I'm finally not injured anymore! Knock on wood, still feels precarious to say that. When I thought I had tendinitis in my ankle 1.5 years ago I actually tore a ligament, apparently, and a lot of the pain I had since which kept me off running most of that time was scar tissue. Been running consistently since January and finally starting to get back into some longer runs now and trust the ankle. It's sooo nice to have running back. Also been writing a lot, I wrote the first draft for a new novel-length project in 31 days which is by far the fastest I've EVER written anything and I'm so excited about the story!!

Otherwise I'm still looking for a job and it sucks! So I'm leaning into running and cycling and time with friends when I can. Trying to trust that it'll be okay eventually but it's not the most fun phase of life for sure.
