Please support my good friend @elvissummers@mythpla, he is currently fighting a battle against the city. They have forced him to move the tiny houses and evict the residents. It's cruel and inhumane to take away shelter away from anyone let alone a homeless person. It goes to show exactly how the city plans to deal with the homeless population, by treating them as if they're sub human. Mr.Mayor, this is a complex issue however the solution is fairly simple. Housing first, it's a proven method and in the long run cost tax payers less. We are asking that you grant our project a vacant public lot that is zoned to build housing upon. Approve The Living Project for a grant from the Arts Activation Fund to go towards either constructing emergency/temporary shelter or purchasing a modified shipping container home to house a family in need. If you agree with this proposal let the mayor know and tell him how you feel about what's going on @ericgarcetti@lamayorsoffice Mr. Mayor, we understand the city has tons of projects which are high priority and essential to the development of the city however the housing crisis can no longer be ignored. It seems the city has plans to confiscate more of the tiny homes tomorrow morning under a fairly new ordinance which prohibits bulky items in public spaces/sidewalks. At the moment @mythpla is relocating the houses to a secure location along with the art panels. Three houses have already been destroyed and they plan to take them all. Unfortunately some of the people that live in the neighborhood view the houses as problematic and an eye sore. The woman in the photo went as far as to call them crack dens and whore houses. The police officers thought it was nice someone was doing something for the homeless. These tiny houses shouldn't be the issue, the lack of affordable housing should be. For the meantime the city is winning this battle against the tiny houses however the fight is far from over... I received unfortunate news from my good friend @elvissummers that the city came and took 3 of the @mythpla #tinyhouses and plan to destroy them. The people who were gifted these houses were stripped of all their belongings with no where to turn to and back to sleeping on the concrete. They haven't touched the houses with the art installation as of yet... It's apparent that @ericgarcetti@lamayorsoffice don't view the homeless crisis as a top priority. If it were, then we would see more executive action taking place rather then endless political rhetoric and empty promises. It has been months since the "state of emergency" speech the mayor gave and what has happened since then? Nothing, that's what. It was only after numerous bodies were found dead on the street wrapped in soiled blankets that any action was taken to open more emergency shelters. The troubling part is that the city knew they were short by 4-5000 shelter beds before El Niño hit LA and instead of taking preemptive measures to save lives from the severe cold. They idly stood by and let homeless people freeze to death on the street. There is plenty of talk about the Rams coming back to #LA, the 6th st bridge and other projects the city has planned but yet nothing is being done about the housing crisis. I'm all for the development of our beloved city however let's take care of our people first, it is socially irresponsible to not resolve the housing crisis before things like a football stadium. It's as if the mayor is ignoring the Skid Row and homeless issue like a teenager who refuses to clean up their filthy room. If he's not going to do something about it then it's up to the us to take responsibility. This is what people like Elvis Summers of @mythpla are doing, taking action and making a difference. We are now collaborating together to bring living art to the streets of Los Angeles. The city doesn't want these tiny houses being built but they can't stop us nor this movement. Each living art piece provides temporary emergency housing and is a #protest statement against the social injustice taking place. Every human being has the right to adequate shelter, not because the #UN dictates it but because in our modern world especially in #America, it is uncivilized to allow #homelessness to exist.
