But has our great nation ever looked in the mirror and openly admitted how it has in the past and still sometimes treats people of color is and has been deplorable. For Colin Kaepernick, despite his financial success as a professional athlete, it was something he chose not to ignore. Were slaves un-American for not singing the national anthem? Was the national anthem played during jim crow? Civil protest and the uncommon courage of a few forced America to finally address and correct deplorable wrongs.
