i just think the hylk ivti mzsa parallels r insane and very intentional. their character journeys teach the same lesson but explore the differences between freedom and captivity, what resistance means, what it looks like to take agency over your life and change your fate..

all three pairs are the combination of a passive puppet of a corporate showpony + a rebellious spirit who lives for love… however, the difference lies in their feelings of agency and worthiness to try to change their fates.

like both mizi and sua meet their fates in the most resolute show of love and acceptance in the face of death… yet are they romanticizing it, looking at their situation with rose-colored glasses to make the best of it? neither make effort to change their fates, how a doe would freeze and willingly give itself up to a wolf…. acceptance of their situation absolves them of their pain.

mizi+sua dont see a way for them to survive this world, and meet their fates with open arms. are they happier for it?

till, who makes such a show out of fighting back and resisting, and yet is the most docile, sensitive, and resigned to his fate of them all? all because he doesnt view himself as worth trying to save. he lives for the sake of love, and once his fantasy shatters, he loses purpose

ivan, whose emotional wounds were rubbed so raw he lost all sensation, who learned to crave the prick of pain and surety of rejection bc of his discomfort in genuine affection and care 4 himself. he too dissociates and views himself as a tool for till. he is not even alive.

a useless human shield. that’s the best he thinks he can be. that’s the best he believes he deserves, which is why he cannot fathom that till considered them friends, that till could have loved him back

for a brief moment, ivan sees a reality in which they can be happy and free together. he risks it all, all hes fought so hard to build and excel in, just for the possibility of loving till freely. and till turns back. till runs back to the comfort of his fantasy world+dull pain

this is the straw that breaks the camels back. ivan gets confirmation of his greatest fear, what stopped him from resisting sooner: till would choose mizi over him any day. till chooses to dissociate and live in his fantasy land with a fictional mizi over a reality with ivan.

so, ivan gives up too. he stops resisting. he lets himself be groomed into the aliens’ greatest undiscovered star; every move he makes is as calculated as luka’s, but there is more at stake. he has to play the game at his expense to live and protect till the best he can, and denies himself anything more than till’s negative reactions. he clings to those moments of rejection to maintain his worldview that he could not possibly be seen and loved.

so, ivan dies believing he is serving his ultimate purpose: to save till. the utter joy he takes in his singular and final selfish act: showing till his feelings, and saving his life.

that is the moment that the veil over till’s eyes falls. he can no longer ignore the reality in front of him, dead at his feet. it haunts him in blink gone.

this is ivan’s gravest mistake: he never believed that till could reciprocate his affections. he underestimates his impact on till, how it traumatizes him to the point of costing him his life… the biggest hypocrite, ivan lectures sua that mizi will only see her as another trauma if she were to die for her, but that mentality is his downfall and till’s as well.

hyuna is the only one who is different. hyuna resists because she knows her loved ones AND HERSELF deserve better. she knows she has to fight and risk it all for a better outcome, and she puts her own life literally on the line to achieve this…

hyuna and luka never stood a chance in the world they knew. luka was too far gone, brainwashed to believe in the system they grew up in, a perfect puppet for his masters. hyuna’s love could never be enough to break him free, except in her final act of love. LIVE WITH LOVE, LUKA.

forgive yourself, over and over, endlessly……… she hopes that this is enough to wake him up, and leaves him with that advice. that is the only way she saw saving him as even a possibility..
