this video is for my students working on #pinchamayurasana. this pose has been my arch nemesis, so if i can do it, so can you. i still have a little too much curve in my back to make the asana ideal, but hey at least i am strong enough to actually hold the pose now. to exit (perhaps the hardest part of an already difficult pose), bend from the knees downward to gain momentum, then snap the legs back and straighten the body asap as the feet land behind you. the jump back literally travels backwards; this is important to keep in mind, especially when resetting the hands. to note: some people hop their hands into chaturanga; i prefer to slide them back because i find it less scary. this approach also helps me to save some necessary energy for what follows (i.e. karandavasana ☠️). p.s. bandhas, bandhas, bandhas! p.p.s. this is happening 18 months after breaking my right foot. all healed up sans surgery, just daily practice. yoga works, y'all. p.p.p.s. i am loving the loud chorus of singing birds that accompany practice thru these springtime days. 🌻 . . . #ashtangayoga #brooklynyoga #nadishodana #pinchamayurasana #practiceandalliscoming #yogaverydamnday (at goodyoga)

Because seasonal allergies is not a game..😩.If you are dealing with allergies, Nadi Shodana /Alternate nostril breathing is a great exercise to try out. . . Nadi Shodhana, also known as Alternate Nostril Breathing, is a powerful breathing practice with wide reaching benefits. Nadi is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘channel’ or ‘flow’ and shodhana means ‘purification.’ Therefore, nadi shodhana is primarily aimed at clearing and purifying the subtle channels of the mind-body organism, while balancing its masculine and feminine aspects. It is pacifying for all three doshas and is a suitable practice for most anyone. . . .Take a comfortable and tall seat, making sure your spine is straight and your heart is open. . Relax your left palm comfortably into your lap and bring your right hand just in front of your face. . With your right hand, bring your pointer finger and middle finger to rest between your eyebrows, lightly using them as an anchor. The fingers we’ll be actively using are the thumb and ring finger. . Close your eyes and take a deep breath in and out through your nose. . Close your right nostril with your right thumb. Inhale through the left nostril slowly and steadily. . Close the left nostril with your ring finger so both nostrils are held closed; retain your breath at the top of the inhale for a brief pause. . Open your right nostril and release the breath slowly through the right side; pause briefly at the bottom of the exhale. Inhale through the right side slowly. Hold both nostrils closed (with ring finger and thumb). . Open your left nostril and release breath slowly through the left side. Pause briefly at the bottom. . Repeat 5-10 cycles, allowing your mind to follow your inhales and exhales. . . Via banyan botanicals . #yoga #yogasihnuu #pranayama #nadishodana
