He was sleeping soundly, so he didn’t hear the man’s whispered words, but the press against his forehead, and the sense of a presence next to him roused him from his slumber with a soft groan. “H-hmmm.... N-Nagahide?”

He smiled, slow and sleepy, and pushed himself up, wiping his eyes.  “I... fell asleep...that’s wierd.”  Sitting up, however, his eyes were starting to clear, his normal, bright eyed expression taking over.  “Everything alright?? I didn’t think you’d be out and about in this heat.”

“There you are!!!”  He smiled and stood up, beckoning him closer.  “Get out of the rain, silly!! I’m just fine.  I took advantage of the clearing clouds to come visit you, but you were gone so I waited here...”  

He shook his head.  “I’ll fix some tea, you have to be cold in the rain like that.”  He was happy to see him... just like that, the strange feeling in his chest lifted at the sight of Nagahide emerging from the trees.

Nagahide for Grumpy x Sunshine

“I was perfectly content just the way I was,” Nagahide states this plainly, veiling the painful memories of before he met Souji.

“I didn’t want you to get involved, to show me your kindness. But you did anyway. Good thing you’re so persistent.”

It was cold and raining, not quite spring, but it was only a matter of time before it truly began. He was content holding the tea in his hands, staring out at the curtain of grey, relishing how the rain seemed to shield the already secluded temple from the outside world.

I was perfectly content the way I was.

Souji turned to Nagahide, his green eyes watching the same grey sky, and perhaps a bit beyond it. Where... did this even come from? He was quiet but tilted his head gently. But the more he talked the more Souji could do nothing but smile. "I... I am persistent, but so were you..." he said softly. He was the one who was adamant about protecting Souji from the one person he couldn't defend himself from...
