happy 9th annual hinazuki day!!!

no art based on this fic this time BUT i did make a custom yuzuki nendodroid!! perhaps hinata will be next year’s project…

parts used:

hair — light kaori miyazono (spring beginning ver)

face — 703 gudako

haori — 1569 sabito

hakama & shoes — 1274 gentaro yumeno

process:

i ordered the individual nendo pieces i needed from jp mercari over the course of about a month. theyre not always available immediately and its a waste to buy the whole figure

when they arrived i used sandpaper on each piece and then handpainted them with several thin layers of white acrylic paint primer. yuzuki’s outfit uses a lot of bright/light colors so i wanted to make sure they didnt get dulled by a dark base

after the primer dried i used matte acrylic paint to create a base color for each piece (including extra sleeves not pictured here). for his hair and hakama, this base coat was extra dark and i used drybrushing to add some depth (its more visible in person). the haori pattern was too complex for dry brushing so i just painted it carefully in layers without much special technique. the parts around his collar that look a bit globby are due to me accidentally using too thick of layers.

i used epoxy sculpt clay to create the hair tie and primed + painted it once dry. it wouldve been better to directly stick the clay onto the figure while it dried instead of letting it dry on a separate surface. it ended up being very difficult to stick onto the figure and constantly needed reattachment.

i finished each piece off with 2 thin layers of matte acrylic varnish. i think it mightve been made for airbrushes?? but it worked just fine with a brush. i also used hot glue to attach the hair tie (i ran out of super glue). the custom clay parts made him very delicate and prone to breakage… which ended up leaving him visibly dusty because i broke his hair ties twice before the photoshoot while trying to clean him off. whoops. thats also why he doesnt have 2 end of the hair tie :P
