LoL Champs First, World Champs Later - Interview with KT Rolster’s Nagne
There was a feeling of completeness and it was even harder to spot any mistakes - the KT Rolsters looked to be in great shape in their games against the Jin Air Green Wings this past Saturday. (Caution: Spoilers ahead.)
Showing an impressive laning phase and taking complete control of the game, KT was able to 2-0 over the Jin Air Green Wings who were arguably showing a strong start in the 2015 LCK Summer splits.
At the center of it all was the KT Rolster’s “Nagne” Kim Sang-moon, who dominated Summoner’s Rift with his Cassiopeia. Read his MVP interview below!
Q. You showed an impressive Cassiopeia game and subsequently got the victory. How are you feeling about your win?
Nagne: I’m glad that we were able to win 2:0 without any negative feelings. After the win I felt even more disappointed that we lost to CJ Entus.
Q. How do you rate mid Varus?
Nagne: I’m practicing him a lot in the mid lane. He is played in a lot of other reasons so the interest in him is pretty high. I think he is really good at poking. The only downside to playing him mid is that he isn’t very good against initiation comp teams and champions.
Q. What were your thoughts when ‘Ganked by Mom’ Lee Chang-suk chose Yasuo in your second match?
Nagne: Our team comp was really solid so I didn’t know he would pick Yasuo. I knew how to play against Yasuo as Cassiopeia and think I did really well in managing my lane, so I am pretty pleased with my performance.
Q. You are doing really well so far in the split. If there is a driving force behind it, what do you think that might be?
Nagne: We won a lot of matches last split so I think that is playing a role, and our team synergy is also pretty good. The current meta also seems to suit our team as a whole.
Q. There have been comments that the KT Rolsters will be a strong contending team in the summer splits, what do you think of those comments?
Nagne: Truthfully, it has become a bit of a burden (laughs). But aside from that I am very thankful to our fans who expect that from us. Right now the majority of fans think that KT, CJ and SKT are the three strongest teams, but I really think we’re in the middle of the pack. I hope that they watch more of our games and evaluate us throughout the split.
Q. Do you have any aspirations of going to the World Championships?
Nagne: Of course we do. None of our current members have gone to the World Championships. However, our aim is to win the summer splits first.
Q. Any last comments?
Nagne: I would like to thank all the fans, executive office and coaching staff for all their love and support. After the last match against CJ Entus I happened to read a comment posted on a community site that read, “They can’t go to World Champs with Nagne”. I was a bit shocked and felt really sorry for my teammates. I made a screenshot of that comment and have been using it to motivate me to try harder. I will try my best to show an improved performance going forward.
