Today we venture properly away from the tourist areas, into country where we were the only white people, and the language barrier has become a real thing. We have been getting by with pointing, and showing pictures on the phone.
We only travelled 2 hours, for those that don’t know we have intercoms and talk a little on route, especially warning each other of dangers etc. So a typical conversation over them goes something like, watch out there a cow in the road, now there’s a heard of them, there is a massive hump, these are sleeping police men, but you have to ride up and down them, oh now there is a truck coming the wrong way, there is a truck parked in the outside lane, now someone is turning onto the road without looking, etc. etc. This continues pretty much the whole journey, and today was very scary at times.
Journey prep at the Ranbanka Place.

The landscape today appeared to be farming land, in stark contrast to the planes of dust we have been passing, there were trees, and pastures that had furrows and what appears to be good soil. Just as we get to Nagaur, the road is closed, bad enough thing in the UK but when the sign looks like hieroglyphic it’s much more concerning, so we turned left the sat nav pick us up, did this a few times and finally found our hotel. Which we promptly drive right by as its named something different to what we booked. This is our hotel.

They have said we can bring the bikes into the hotel from 9:00 I do hope so or will not be sleeping as they are currently parked on a main road. We may not be sleeping anyway as there appears to be a party of some kind being planned. May be a wedding. Unfortunately for Carol who has really wants to see a wedding, it was a children’s birthday party started at 830 and still going strong into the night, great no sleep, and an early start. We did managed to put our bikes inside the hotel grounds despite the best efforts of a Cow to stop me.
After a spot of lunch we head out to see the local Fort.
The Fort has been restored over the last 10 or so years and is still in restoration. The Fort had been used as an army garrison during the India Pakistani wars, for the Special Boarder Force, so had been significantly modified, then post this local families had lived there with little concern for the heritage, and locals have spent time plundering and writing graffiti, the work being done and done so far is very significant.

A couple of pictures from street life while on our way too and from the Fort by Tuk Tuk. Look out for how many people you can get on a bike, believe me this is not the odd occurrence but the norm.
