Posted @withregram • @houseleah it is interesting each year observing the themes for NAIDOC, seeing government and organisations preach something that they have zero intentions of delivering when the week ends. Heal Country has potential to unleash conversations that so many non Indigenous peoples are not ready to take on. So we find ourselves with yet another missed opportunity to burn this colony down. just as we did with last years theme, ALWAYS WAS ALWAYS WILL BE. How can we take a week of the year and acknowledge that these lands always were and always will be unceded Blak Lands. Then go right back to upholding the colony that occupies those Lands? at the end of the week, these beautiful themes are forgotten by government and mainstream organisations. HEAL COUNTRY is overdue, our Lands have been stolen, raped, poisoned, destroyed, violated in every conceivable way. our Lands will not heal without being returned to the people’s that have taken care of the Lands since time immemorial. the sooner australiar accepts this and gets real the sooner we can actually heal our Lands, our people and our futures! NAIDOC doesn’t exists to make us feel better, it is and always has been an acknowledgment of the crimes committed against our people. Healing Country means embracing First Nation’s cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia's national heritage. The right to protect Country and culture is fundamental. Destruction and desecration of our sacred lands or ancient sites - some of the oldest human occupation sites on the planet – is an enormous loss for both our nation and the world.
