I hate introducing myself to people
I know its because I don't connect with my name, and haven't found a different one to use yet. I know its because I hate my name, I hate the way it sounds, I hate the way I have to force it out of my mouth like I’m trying to speak around peanut butter stuck to the roof of my mouth.
Okay. So I don't really like Snape. My own opinion, but I'm not talking about that. No, I want to talk about Albus Severus Potter.
There's a lot of hate towards his name. I get the reasoning behind it totally- Snape wasn't a very good man and for Harry to name his son after him? Okay, I get where all this is coming from... But let's think for a minute. Not about Snape, or Albus even- let's think about Harry. Harry, and what we know about him. First of all- he is forgiving. Very forgiving, forgiving to a fault almost. Secondly- he sees the good in people. He tries to give people second chances. He tried to give Voldemort a second chance for goodness sake! Why is it so unbelievable that he would give Snape a second chance? Snape- regardless of the means or reasons that got him there- saved Harry's life. Multiple times He was a double agent, playing a very dangerous game. Yes, he did it because of Lily, because he loved her (that point can be debated on later, for all intents and purposes- he loved her. In his way, which may not be the most conventional way, but I'm not here to debate that point) but he still did it. And that matters to Harry! It does! Because that's the type of person Harry is. Plus- Snape did it out of love for Lily. Think about what that would have meant to Harry, the boy that was so deprived of love, affection, and kindness until 11 years old. Love is a major motif in Harry Potter. It is the driving force behind many of the actions- the defeat of Voldemort ring any bells? Self-sacrificing to save a loved one? So yes, the reasoning- Snape's love for Lily- would have affected Harry big time. Big enough to name your child after? I don't know- Snape obviously did a lot of shitty things as well, but people always seem to be seen through rose-colored glasses after they die. Is it the best name that Harry could have given his child? No, probably not. But remember- Harry is nothing if not kind and thoughtful of others. Albus has Harry's eyes- Lily's eyes. That definitely played a part in his naming as well.
Another thing that bothers me is people's thought of the reactions of the others. First of all- Ginny would not have been upset? Are you kidding? There's no way that she would let her son have a name she wasn't okay with- there's no way Harry would have given his son a name Ginny wasn't comfortable with. They were married, they understood each other. That's what couples do. And Neville: Yes Snape bullied him. A lot. But also, Neville grew up. He grew up enough that he knew that first: Albus was not his son and two: Harry had a different relationship with Snape. He didn't know the extent of the relationship, or anything, but he would not resent Harry, or God forbid Albus his godson for goodness sake, because of his name. He may be shocked, and not understand, but he would support Harry's decision- Neville always stood behind Harry, even without proof he was right, without even always knowing why something was happening.
My last point: I see a lot of posts about "why didn't he name his kid after Remus or Hagrid?" Well- he had Teddy. I firmly believe that he thought of Teddy as a son- he didn't need another son named after Remus. As for Hagrid: Well, I can't be sure on this one, but my theory: Hagrid was still alive. He saw him often, stayed in touch. I think Albus Severus Potter (As well as James Sirius and Lily) was to pay respects to fallen warriors that impacted/saved/helped him in significant ways. (Luna I don't know- it could be a reference to Remus, it could be Ginny at that point, it could be they ran out of names- I'm not J.K, so these are just my theories).
Okay, rant over. This is a lot longer than I intended, but I was sick of seeing name hate on my dash. Come on guys, whatever your reason for disliking the name- you have to admit, the "whose name is worse" game with Scorpius would be amazing!
I don't fuck with bitches named Petra
So just saying it's not that obvious that you're a female, because Morgan is a unisex name. Juuustt saying.
Thank you for pointing that out; it's not like I didn't know that since the time I could think critically. =/
Thanks for the message though.
Let me clarify my answer... I don't really like my name. Not one part of it is likeable in my opinion, but it's official and it's on my birth certificate. It will be a part of me for the rest of my life and there is no changing that. Granted, I could change the name, but I would still be traced back to Morgan. Everyone knows me by that label. So yeah, I was a little sarcastic and probably snarky about my reply, but it's mostly because of the name, not how you worded your statement.
What's your full name? Or is Riss your full name? My nickname is Riss, too but my full name is Carissa.
No, sadly Riss is not my full name. I hate my name actually. It seems like everyone has it. My full name is Marissa, I have a cousin named Carissa and when we're together it's just confusing. She calls herself Rissa, I call myself Riss. One big fuck all during the holidays. I usually settle on being called Missa so there's not confusion.
K. You know what?!
I'm so fucking sick of TV shows mocking my fucking name. I'm pissed. My name is Tegan. I was named after someone on Dr. Who (the original series). And NOW. Dexter AND CSI have mocked my name.
First, Dexter. I was a fucking crack whore with a "ho pad". Dexter then went on to say "Who would name their child Tegan? Tee-gan." Then, my character died.
AND NOW. At 1 am, CSI has some stupid suspect mocking my name, ONCE AGAIN. "What kind of a name is Tegan? I mean, it's a stupid name."
I simply had to rant. STOP WITH THE FUCKING HATE ON MY NAME!
