Joe responded promptly and cheaply to Coomer’s request for someone to mow the lawn, so why not at least try.

Coomer wipes at his shiny forehead, sweating a bit in the heat. “Oh - I have to go find my hedge clippers. Would you like your $10 now before I put my wallet up?”

     “My my, what a mess! Sorry about that!” A group of thugs had come through and ended up picking a fight with one of the testiest young men in the area, and the violence had erupted before there was even opportunity for explanation or to sort through the mixup. Lupin had stayed clear, watchful with a smile until he decided to make himself known to Joe, that smile turning almost apologetic. As close as he could muster, at least.

     “They were after me! But thanks for that!”

ONE OF HIS BIGGEST FEARS, OH, perhaps even the biggest of them all, is the fear of being caught up in trouble. he's always worn upon his chest a badge of decency. a MORAL upstanding. it isn't something he takes lightly and though, while once he was certain that he'd never fall prey to evil, the young man now feels …doubts.

he's tugged from his thoughts, like a hook PRESSED into his center and yanking him forth. a gamble, he's taken, by cutting through less than orderly streets to his destination. there's lots of UNPLEASANT places in fibonacci, nooks and crannies where the upper echelon can ignore with upturned noses. the young man despises this mentality where something besides hard work is what pays off. he didn't expect to see anyone else here, however, much less someone in his own age group.

much less someone who proves how LAWLESS these streets could be.

The Devil finds work for idle hands, but even he refrained from paying Ayanami a visit. No, not even his fictional presence had a place here, within these dreary grey walls where no living thing could thrive. Even this heart mocked the pale flesh it failed to warm, each beat an echo of a life that was not her own, that had once been someone else's. Still, what twisted comfort the borrowed muscle brought ! That for the time being she could feel this pulse in her wrists and know that she was here.

It's all she could do now, listen to the rhythmic beating in her chest as she drifted in and out of consciousness, curled up still under the covers. It did not take long for days off to grow dull, for her idle hands and idle mind to grow restless against the weight of unproductivity; but her muscles still ached from the strain of piloting a few days before, her body still too feeble to do much of anything yet.

It's the ringing of the doorbell that finally pulls her away from bed, limbs protesting slightly as made her way to answer the door.

A slight ripple of surprise disrupts a poker face, vast crimson hues staring at this unfamiliar face before her.
