Hey friends! I hope everyone has been well! 💕 Just an fyi I will be moving Lupin to my multimuse blog. Please follow me there! I'm far more active over on that blog tbh, turns out I'm not cut out for running more than a single blog at a time anymore.
Love you all! Have a great Halloween!
@grandgrief / Nero — ;
"Oh hell no." Nero is gently putting the sought-after treasure down and kicking it so it would slide towards Lupin. Surrender, essentially. "I didn't sign up for this. The listing said it was gonna be a mid-size job! Not an Arsene Lupin feature-length romp."
"Good call."
The tip of a lace-up brogue caught the small treasure that slid along marble and granite tiles, stopping it in its track. It felt natural, like it was settling into the hands at last of the one who was meant to have it all along. He had come to liberate it from the private collection of a diplomat; it seemed someone else had a similar idea until they saw it would be a better fit in the hands of Arsène Lupin the Third.
"No offense, but you look better a sort of an extra in this particular set, especially if I'm here as the main character."
One didn't very easily make friends with others in this particular profession, especially considering they were both here as criminals, though Lupin admitted he liked not only this man's style, but sensibility as well. He knew when to back down and save his energy for some other job instead, for instance, because going against the world's greatest thief wasn't meant for the light-hearted or those who weren't ready to put their very lives on the line all in the name of a heist. Not that he expected to be sharing drinks or something anytime soon, but it wouldn't hurt to keep tabs on the man...
"What's your name?"
@perceptualephemera asked — ;
" 𝐒𝐌𝐀𝐒𝐇 𝐎𝐑 𝐏𝐀𝐒𝐒 “ (rebecca)
You know this game.
"Well, the answer should be obvious here."
He wouldn't easily forget the way she left him waiting in the wings like that upon their wedding night, their honeymoon sealed with a heist rather than the traditional manner. And more than that – she had tried her best to rise to his level, to gain his interest as an equal. It wasn't an easy task, but regardless she had caught his notice. Alas, like the wind, Lupin was never one to be truly pinned down and stay in one place no matter the obligation or temptation. Besides, they both were constantly craving the thrill of the next adventure, so they would only ever continue to periodically cross paths.
"Smash! We were 'married' for a short period after all."

What keeps your soul tethered to the mortal realm?
love
i don't mean love for a person. i mean your love for living. your lust for life. it breaks your heart to have to leave everything behind. you're afraid. you don't know what awaits for you on the other side. you hang onto this realm with white knuckles and clenched teeth. the world is beautiful, but so is whatever is beyond. trust in yourself and believe that where you're going is where you deserve to be. it will be somewhere good. somewhere grand. it will grant you a sense of fulfillment you could only ever dream of. let go of this cruel world and allow yourself to be welcomed into the next with open arms.

zenigatakeibu / Zenigata
All at once Zenigata feels his heart plummet into his stomach. It’s a question he should have seen coming, yet it hits hard nonetheless, straight to the gut. A lesser man may have broken down right then and there, tears and all. Instead that thick brow furrows as he steels himself, the polite smile falling. In its place comes something cold and steady. Impersonal. “.. We’ll see about talking after you eat. You’re still concussed, you need rest more than anything.”
He regrets accepting the role of caretaker almost as soon as he it’s his, but the doctors had insisted: ‘Who better to look after Lupin than the man who knows him best?’ His apartment is and always has been a wreck. Two trips to the laundromat put little more than a dent in the mess; whole trash bags of old takeout containers, empty bottles and stale cigarettes sit in wait by the door. The place is cleaner than it’s been in years by the time he’s finally done. Fresh sheets greet him that night, though he doesn’t get much sleep, too nervous about Lupin’s arrival come tomorrow…
“Here, I brought you something clean to wear…” Surprise surprise, the hospital is no more inviting than it had been during the initial visit. Zenigata sets the bundle of clothes on the edge of Lupin’s bed, feeling something in his chest pull at the sight of him so pale. And skinny… What the hell are they feeding him here, anyway? “We’re leaving as soon as we get your medications.”
The ride to the inspector’s apartment is a silent one. He watches the thief out of the corner of his eye the whole drive, white-knuckling the poor steering wheel half to death. Old habits die hard– harder, still, when you’re paranoid. The few minutes it takes to park and come up the stairs to his apartment feel like the longest of Zenigata’s life. Breath bated, the door swings open. “Th-this is–.. Ahem, this is it.”
It’s cramped and humbly decorated, the walls a plain rustic beige. Further inside is a small living room with a green tatami floor, a dusty TV resting in its corner. Beside it, a shelf for a turntable and a handful of records. The kitchen is sparse, too; it’s gone unused for a while by the looks of it. Zenigata nods toward the open bedroom as he shuffles past. “You’ll be staying in… There. I’ve got you some clothing, a towel… Shoes.”
The glossy pages of a magazine held no solace for him, able to imagine the sounds of the sparkling waves lapping upon the white sandy beach easily, but finding no comfort in that. It meant nothing, even if he might’ve visited such tropical destinations at some point in an apparently illustrious career. None of it meant a damn thing if he couldn’t remember what mattered. Forget the legacy of Arsène Lupin III, he couldn’t even recall if that was his actual name or what his mother or father might’ve looked like. Did he have any siblings, or legitimate friends? What were his hobbies outside of crime-related activities?
No – all he had was Inspector Zenigata, and the change of clothing the man had brought to wear. Silent, the shadow of the man known as Lupin nodded and set aside the magazine. At least he would be getting out of the hospital, away from the constant reminders that something was seriously wrong with him.
The car ride hadn’t been much better, the silence filled with a tension so thick you could practically mould it, shape it like a heavy and wet clay, but neither party even made such an attempt to shape it into so much as small talk. There was nothing to discuss. As far as Lupin was concerned, Zenigata held all of the keys here, the one with all of the knowledge and know-how of them both.
“Huh. It’s... nice. Cosy.” Caution marked his tone upon entering the apartment, noting that the place was rather dull. Not quite lived-in, but more of a home base for a man who likely led an otherwise chaotic life. Anything that signaled to a hobby or something for fun for Zenigata had collected dust, such as the television or the nigh-barren kitchen.
“Hang on. You’re not giving me your bed, are you? Where are you sleeping?” He didn’t need to glance through the entirety of the apartment to know there was only a single bedroom; somehow that information was simply just there in his mind somehow. Concern for others, martyrdom regarding subjects as mundane as a more comfortable sleeping situation didn’t suit Lupin.
“You’re already getting me clothes and stuff, letting me stay here. You should sleep in your own bed.”
The partnership was forged in necessity. But Lupin still found it within himself to channel levity, the enigmatic duo liable to be mistaken for Abbott and Costello, with Lupin as the leading men and Junker himself as any number of monsters they'd met-- Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolf-Man. And yet there was little argument from Junker. Came with the territory, he supposed. Kept things entertaining.
"Allow me to tie up a few... loose ends here at home. Then, I can spare you more than just a few days."
Nabbing artifacts was one of Junker's various odds and ends. He had other capers to keep up with, friends of his own to look out for-- whether they knew he was around or not. Fortunately everything left on his docket at the moment was small potatoes. He could afford to finesse them a bit this time, follow up later once this had been sorted out.
"Heh-heh-heh-huehahahaha!!"
The sound is a pitch goblinesque compared to the deep, dull voice he spoke as though host to a late night horror marathon. They were both inclined to some theatrics, that escapist spirit-- but it was Lupin who was more the romantic. Junker was aiming to inspire chills along the spines of their opposition.
"Have some faith, 'Wolf.' They catch wise to us, we'll catch wise to whatever they attempt in countermeasures."
Lupin the Third stood for flashiness, extravagance, riches and chaos – a real treat for the senses, even at the cost of overwhelming some. Unapologetic. To juxtapose him in a partnership with the entity known as the Junker would surely force an editor to reject the script entirely on the basis of the preoposterous. But who better to provide the brightest of light to cast yawning, dramatic shadows in which the Junker would lurk within? They were two sides of the same coin, in a sense, convenience letting their motives align for the time being.
It was dangerous to work with a criminal such as Lupin, just as Lupin considered it dangerous to work with someone who felt guided by some sense of justice like the Junker. They would never see eye-to-eye. Yet before them was the first piece of a grand, ostentatious puzzle obscured by history and by those in wealthy positions of power. A challenge they were both willing to tackle, proportionally for selfish and unselfish reasons.
"Ooh, you're fitting little ol' me into your busy schedule?" Levity remained leveraged within the thief's tone, perhaps his very demeanor. It would remain to be seen if it were a mask or not. Regardless, he wouldn't have anticipated the laughter from his oft-grim companion who would have been better served narrating the Twilight Zone's funerals. The sound would've sent goosebumps along Lupin's body, but admittedly he did feel a little like he had been shoved into a haunted house. Eerie. Yet it made him smile.
The Junker shouldn't make that sound again, he decided. It was like if a cat looked at you and began to talk. Out-of-place.
"I expect they'll underestimate us." But the call of the thrill of the heist, the treasure gained, the secrets unearthed – they could only prepare further, each formidable on his own. It remained to be seen if they were actually capable of cooperating well.
"A few days then. Amsterdam. Perfect! I've been craving some classic poffertjes."
The second of what may be multiple stops. But who said they had to strike in order?
lupin really said menace is a state of being not a verb 😌

More sloshed in his glass. It is comforting, and according to their partner samurai, respectful that Jigen be served first between the two of them; but not additive to his mood.
“… Don’t pretend for my sake.”
“Okuzaki.” He let that be the start and end of his point. And another tip of the glass makes all his movements more halted, while his head was the most active part of the body, his legs failing to take upward like the shoulders seem to be leaning for. The world was moving in one direction, and forced him down again instead of getting to stagger off to brood in silence.
“ I saw him wanderin’ in the next town over… An he was already starin’ at me before I laid eyes…”
A single name would only carry so much significance to the gunman whose reputation and livelihood ( and life ) was on the line, and Lupin nodded in understanding. Levity would be spared for the time being; his expression appropriately somber as he considered the few words his partner in crime provided. It was likely that some kind of dramatic showdown would be in the works any time soon.
“ Well? You’re the expert in this stuff. ”
For him, a master thief, rather than one whose lifestyle relied upon the quickness to pull a trigger, it would be far out of line for him to weigh in too much upon the matter. This was about a man’s pride. As irreverent as Lupin could be, tact was a powerful virtue; he would merely play support for Jigen. They knew Okuzaki’s tactics by now as well as the powers that funded him – but that didn’t mean the devious man would have other surprises in store in the wicked name of revenge.
“ He should’ve run off with his tail between his legs the second he spotted you, if you ask me. Wanna teach him another lesson? ”
dusts things off bc i accidentally forgot to write for a hot minute...
Hey friends! I'm at a stage in my life where I'm giving myself stress-induced nosebleeds. 🙃 I've got a lot on my plate and to write currently would only be further stress (whether from more pressure I put on myself, procrastination, or unhealthy-for-me escapism) so just taking a small break. Once I'm in a better headspace I'll be back at it because I miss creating such great things with you all! 💕

The man's smile was disarming; there was a seemingly genuine warmth in his eyes. That, along with his overall non-threatening demeanor settled Joe a bit. But a creeping feeling in his gut told him not to underestimate this guy. And Joe was never one to doubt his own intuition.
"Really? That's pretty funny. What did ya steal?" Joe didn't hide his amusement; he was like a little kid in the way he got excited about doing things that were 'bad'.
Joe, being unaccustomed to such formal greetings, looked at the man's hand almost as if he didn't know what he was expected to do with it. After this moment of obvious hesitation, Joe gripped the man's hand harder than necessary in a not-subtle attempt at compensating.
"Call me Joe."
Upfront the kid seemed friendly even if he did apparently pack quite the punch – all things he had witnessed now firsthand. The one called Lupin couldn't help but mirror the other's mild excitement at the idea of someone dressed as flashily as himself having stolen something important enough to warrant being chased down, so he gave a small giggle.
"Oh, y'know!" That wasn't an answer; Joe likely didn't know and if he had, he wouldn't have needed to ask. Instead, he focused on the other, noting the tight grip in their handshake that he would simply return in kind. He wasn't easily intimidated by any such displays.
"Joe! I'm Lupin." Retracting his hand, the master thief held up three fingers to elaborate, "the Third." Just in case the kid had heard of the infamous criminal. With a twist of his wrist and embellished flourish of his fingers, he produced his prize through sleight of hand: a seemingly innocuous but large harlequin opal.
"They call this the Jester's Jewel. It runs for over two million. But more than that – I like your strength and could use it."

Where others would be disgruntled or indignant, Ryou shows nothing but genuine calmness, meeting the accusations with a sole deep exhale and leizured shake of his lightly disheveled head before being unhurried to rise back to one’s steady feet. Conflictive, fearful, expecting a blow right to his heavily guarded yet so very aching heart… Such paranoia is unsurprising and familiar, he couldn’t blame Arsène for what he felt… Pale shine of moonrays finds its melancholy reflection within the assassin’s profound eyesight, he isn’t afraid to lock it with the thief’s own as long fingers are featherlight to brush upon the other hand in order to reach for the filled glass, only to place it back at the surface without any further spill.
“I do understand from where such apprehensions are coming from… But, believe it or not, some things in this world are to be given gratuitously. I mend your wounds because I want you to heal and be free of pain, not to point at the scar that remains after and say ‘you own me’… I may be an assassin, yet such is not in my nature.”
“I strive to kill monsters, Arsène… Not hurt people I create seldom connections with. Especially not the ones I’ve grown to care about…”
How hard-earned trust was in their respective lines of work! And amongst thieves in particular, even then was it never a true certainty, the objects of affection often stained by the blood of centuries of betrayal. Yet for a man who paradoxically acted so close yet harbored secrets more possessively than anything he might ever steal, Lupin had earned the trust of Ryou – and vice versa. The hard part was ever admitting to such, to allowing his guard down so thoroughly to show that beneath the legend of Arsène Lupin III, there was a human man.
Basal desires of humanity were almost a display or parody by this extent. No one could deny he was just a man if he made advances towards beautiful women, argued over mundane matters as food or doing dishes, or indulged in chronic vices of nicotine, alcohol, or more. But were those not just shallow representations? Yet here was a man who killed by trade and by heredity, stitching wounds all physical, mental, and emotional. Tonight Ryou wielded soft tone and earnest words in lieu of a needle and thread.
“Ask around. You’ll find any number of people who find me enough of a monster to name me as one of your targets.” By this extent with his hand lowered, Lupin was losing bluster, eyes still not yet departing from the glint of moonlight in the clear of the vodka bottle.
“So what do you see me as then? A pet project? Community service? It’s not easy, taking in a world-class criminal like me like you’ve decided to.”
@killedarlings / Loid gets a date for the dinner party...
“What? We can’t both go as men to this function if you wanted to be subtle, right? We’d draw too much attention.”
He had long since assessed the fact that the spy, while also a master of disguise, wouldn’t be the right candidate out of the duo to pass for a woman. Broad shoulders, athletic build, a nice jawline – these things were great on any human, but in combination all pointed to a masculine nature. More than that, Lupin admittedly had a good amount of experience playing it off as a coy, slightly daring woman, and found he had a convincing enough falsetto – enough so that it had caused issues for him during past jobs of his own.
“Besides, I’m the better pickpocket and I’m not afraid to get handsy like this.” With a cute smile accented by the bold red lipstick, the master thief gave a small sound that could be a giggle before attaching himself to Loid’s arm. Similarly as either of them might pull on a pair of gloves, he was falling into the character of the spunky Miss Marie, now exercising that falsetto he had practiced many times before. “Help me walk over this grating, darling. I don’t want my heels to get caught!”
@model19–
Lupin's hands are filled briskly with a box, containing bear grease, (for styling) a new comb, and a corkscrew bottle opener, as slim and deployable as any other gadget the thief might have.
"Going for a smoke." In the cold night air, to stare at the lights on snow covered rooftops.
Unceremoniously had the box been shoved into his hands, enough so that Lupin had nearly dropped it. Silently he gazed at the gunman in question before inspecting its contents, pleasantly surprised as he began to understand the intention. Gifts for the holiday. A quaint but sincere thought – and a classic gesture from a man who was like finely aged whiskey, well-cared-for leather, or the crooning tunes of Frank Sinatra. At heart, that man Jigen was a classic himself, hiding such honest eyes beneath the brim of his fedora.
"Then lemme join you." He knew it was the other just avoiding anything like embarrassing displays of gratitude or teasing, but instead of offering any good-natured ribbing, Lupin only stepped out after him and offered a light for his cigarette.
