Outside the Ladradun gate lamps burned, marking the edges of the road in the snow. Daja trudged down Sarah Street, looking around her. She didn't care what Frostpine said: she loved freshly fallen snow, the way it clung to trees, fences, and ornamental carvings, softening even the jingle of sleighbells, muffling the clop of horses and the sounds of people going home. She loved the way it danced in the air, shaping globes of light around the lamps, swirling in and out of patterns. In the mountains between the Syth and Emelan snow was untouchable, hard, and deadly. Here people trudged through it, swept it, rode through its curtains and streamers, played with it. It made the busy Kugiskans into friendly people. Everyone she passed wished her a good evening, or smiled and said things like, “A foot or two by morning, at least!”

Editing Thoughts: Namorn = Russia? (It's up north, it's huge, it's conquered a lot of land (hello, Baltic nations), it borders Yanjing/China.)
Yo write me some Sandry/Daja Circle of Magic fic
After Namorn, after Berenene and Shan and Rizu, after all that fear and despair and stubbornness–
Sandry sits in Summersea, in the parlor of Daja’s house - their house - and breathes in the cold, fresh scent of winter.
It scares her - almost as badly as the darkness does, the sheer memory, the threat of the Namornese winter keeping her, trapping her, knotting her up into a precious little heiress.
But there’s a solid block of warmth at her side, curled up against her, absentmindedly humming as she twists wires together. Sandry is better at understanding Daja’s wirework than her smithing, and squints at the gold - gold for warmth, gold for healing - and the almost-familiar signs being worked into the wires by Daja’s strong hands.
It would be true winter soon, and though it never snowed in Emelan - too warm, and too close to the sea, Tris had said - it was going to be chilly, and crisp, and Sandry felt like she was walking on the edge of a knife. She had never been through a Namornese winter, but that had been the threat - the winter had been the point of no return, the time when she would be frozen there, solid and stuck forever.
Saati, Daja whispers in her mind. Sandry. Look.
And there it was, a flash of the Namornese winter - Kugisko, inextricably tied with whatever Daja was showing her, however much the other girl had tried to keep it away from her - but then there was what Daja had wanted her to see, a pair of gloves, iron gauntlets, to keep the fire out…
Sandry looks down at the gold wires Daja was working. Gold bracelets, to keep the warmth in.
Sandry closes her eyes, and feels Daja’s heat beside her, the warmth of their home, and breathes in.
(this turned out to be more cuddles and comfort than traditional shippy, but I really like the way it turned out. I love these characters so much - thanks for the prompt!)

Day 26: Favorite non-Tortall country, favorite non-Emelan country Non-Tortall - The Copper Isles (who doesn't love a country where the patron god is the trickster) Non-Emelan - Namorn, specifically Kugisko with its frozen canals and brightly painted buildings
