End of year fic recommendations: Smutty smutty smut
So, smut isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. There was once a time when I felt really uncomfortable reading smut, and I never wrote it until just a few months ago. However, when done well it can be SO good. I’m a fan of smut scenes that allow for a greater exploration of character dynamics, or that further a plot. And when one’s favorite pairing is apparently having canonically “epic” sex, smut can definitely be woven into fic in a very organic way. So without further ado, here are some of my choices for most memorable smutty fics and/or scenes of the year.

So, I already wrote a full post on this fic but, dear god, I couldn’t NOT include it in this post. This is THE smutty fic of the fandom, the grande dame of smut fics. There is so much feeling, so much history, and so much scorching hotness in this Wild Pony bathroom hookup between Michael and Alex. The part up against the sink and mirror... um... yeah. My favorite smut-forward fic of the year, hands down.

This is a Star Trek AU in which Captain Alex gets his old Academy roommate, Michael, to join him on the Enterprise. He sweetens the pot with, well, himself. The back alley hookup in the first chapter of this fic is a thing of beauty. Very hot, with a rough edge to it, but still a lot of emotion. Bonus points for an earnest Max thinking that Michael and Alex got in a fight...
I am also giving this fic bonus points for the very memorable blowjob scene in Chapter 6 that gets interrupted by Max’s comm call.

Listen. We all know this is a goddamn masterpiece, and I have a whole separate post planned about it. But I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the ridiculously hot sex scenes peppered throughout this. I liked that they were so varied, and that Michael and Alex took some time exploring different types of sexual experiences with each other. Gold stars all around, here.

The end of this fic is so beautiful, and honestly feels so healing. Michael and Alex reminisce about their first time in the shed as they are sexually involved in the current day, too. It’s a great scene that is simultaneously sexy and emotional (my favorite combo)!

Speaking of sexy AND emotional, I loved Michael and Alex’s sexual encounter in Alex’s cabin following a throwback party in which Alex dressed like he did when he was 17. Of course, a lot has changed since then, and this fic does a great job acknowledging and exploring that.

Alex takes care of what’s his, okay? I remember first reading this in a room, in my own home, by myself, and looking around nervously to make sure no one else could see my screen, ha. There’s a nice dose of emotion here, too, with Alex assuring Michael that he’s here to stay.
