Oh I did #2 already.
5. What are your fanfic pet peeves? Do they have a huge effect on whether or not you decide to read something?
Yes. I used to read everything posted in RNM. Then when I started writing I needed to divide my time in a more useful manner, so I have gotten a little more picky. First peeve, I don’t read first or second person. I pretty much only like Malex these days, I used to read side pairings more but either because of characterization that’s popular or because of how the show handled something, I dropped those. Now if I come across untagged pairings, I backbutton out and I’ve started asking up front if there are lots of pairings, what’s the endgame for the story. Then I sit in my dark pit of guilt because I want to be someone who likes everything, and I’m not.
14. Do you have a personal word minimum that you hold yourself too? Why or why not?
Yes, I started at 200 words, then 500 words and finally settled on 1,000 words a day. I started that when I really focused my efforts on finishing Last Year’s Wishes. It was an all day goal, so before work, during my lunch break, talking verbally into my document while I was driving in traffic, whatever it took to get there. Reaching a goal encourages me to keep making a goal. But I had to start with a very very easy goal to keep from getting discouraged. Now I’m pretty cocky and make outlandish goals all the time about, and frequently fail at them, but I fail in such a way that it still feels like an accomplishment because something does hit the page, more than I thought I could do, less than what I wanted.
20. What’s your favorite part about the fanfiction writing process?
That’s here.
35. How much has writing fic changed your life?
Also linked above. Thank you!
listen, the SMUT. the PORN. the unabashed HORNINESS of it all!!!! and the way you bang it out (pun fully intended) on the reg and it's always so fucking good, you're truly doing a public service here. the power dynamic stuff? outstanding. it's always a drop everything and read immediately situation when you post or update something.
aaaaaaa thank youuuuuu ToT
28 + malex for the kiss prompts?
#28: One person tracing the other’s lips with a fingertip until they can’t resist any longer, tilting their chin towards them for a kiss.
Alex comes to slowly, his nose scrunching up as he feels a feather light touch on his cheek. He fights the urge to swat the hand away, and instead leans into the touch. He hears Michael chuckle, but the other man continues as he traces down along his jaw, then back up along the bridge of his nose, until his thumb gently traces Alex’s lips.
Alex sighs, finally opening his eyes to find Michael watching him. Alex is struck, like he often is, but what he finds in Michael’s honey-colored eyes. He never thought he’d have this again, have Michael staring at him with such love and devotion that it makes Alex want to rip his heart out of his chest and give it to Michael, since he already owns it. He looks at Alex like he’s his everything, and his touch on Alex’s lips is like a blessing, healing him and as the love they share makes him the man he’s destined to be.
Michael groans when Alex opens his mouth, pulling his thumb in and sucking gently. Alex watches as Michael’s eyes close, and when they open again there’s unmistakable lust.
“You’re cheating.” Michael grumbles, but doesn’t pull his thumb out of Alex’s mouth. “I was trying to be romantic.”
Alex lets Michael’s thumb go so he can speak, an eyebrow raised as he looks back at Michael.
“Romantic is all fine and good, but I’d rather have a repeat of last night.”
Michael’s fingers have restarted their journey over Alex’s face, until finally Michael grips Alex’s chin and pulls him until they meet in the middle. The kiss starts as slow and gentle, but Alex pushes until Michael is flat on the bed, spread out underneath as Alex kisses his way down Michael’s neck and torso.
“This didn’t happen last night.” Michael points out, his voice heavy and rough as Alex continues downward. Alex kisses Michael’s stomach before looking back up at him with dark eyes and devilish smirk.
“I’m improvising.”
End of year fic recommendations: Take me back to the start
Take me back to the start, by @myrmidryad
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Boy, does this fic pack a punch. It’s a beautifully written fic with a hell of a premise: Alex has been de-aged to his 17 year old self.
That becomes the catalyst for a really exceptional story that explores so many relationships and characters. Young Alex’s shock and confusion over how his 28-year-old self’s life could have possibly taken the course it did is absolutely heartbreaking. The author conveys emotion amazingly well, and explores the complex network of relationships among Michael, Alex, and Maria in an in-depth, insightful way. There’s a very satisfying payoff once Alex and Michael finally realize how severely their communication wires have been crossed.
1, 9, 14 for the fanfic asks!
1.. If you’re an author, how many WIPs do you currently have? (Be honest!)
Two that I’m actively writing. I have a folder full of random prompts or snippets of ideas though, and there are... a lot of those.
9. Fake dating or arranged marriage?
Fake dating, but I’m not super excited about either trope. (I know, revoke my fandom card now.)
14. (For authors) Post a line of dialogue from one of your WIPs without context.
“Do NOT kick Liz. Do not stab Liz. Maybe don’t even look at Liz. Stop being a little shit.”
your speciality: your writing is FUNNY and your dialogue is really quick and witty, I can always hear it crystal-clear.
afdhgsdgk thank you!
#27 (if you want to answer, if not it's all g), #28 and #31, dude :)
27. The book you’re embarrassed to admit you’ve read
I’m trying to think of something I’m actually embarrassed to have read and honestly I’m finding it hard. Like yes, I’ve read all of Twilight, but you know, we all did. And honestly I’m proud of my self for recognising them as the shite they are earlier than most. The first film made me realise the whole series is crap. I’ve also tried to read Fifty Shades of Grey but I couldn’t even get three chapters in, the writing is so awful. If you asked me five years ago, I could look at my book shelves and work it out, but I got rid of all the books I’m never going to read again so I’ve only got decent books on the shelves now.
I am a little embarrassed by that Destiel fic I read, that famous one, Twist and Shout. Not that I’ve read it, we all have, I’m not ashamed of having read it, just embarrassed that I loved it as much as I did. It’s fine but like, it’s just fine?
28. The one where the fanfic was better than the original (and the relevant AO3 links, pls)
Man I know there’s a few of these, some stories do things so well, they become my new canon and the original content is optional. Ones that are coming to mind include that famous (unfinished) Jily fic, The Life and Times, which I’m not saying is better than Harry Potter, but is better than all the original content we have an the Marauders.
Another one that really stayed with me was a Les Mis Pacific Rim AU I read before I’d even seen Pacific Rim and it was so good it convinced me to see the film, which I was then disappointed by, because I thought the fanfiction was better. Fighting the Hurricane
I also used to be obsessed with this South Park fanfiction (I know I know) focused on The Mole, Gregory, and Damien and angels and demons and the apocalypse and fuck me it was dramatic, I read it like three times. Consequences to the Grave
I’m sure there’s more, maybe they’ll come to me while I’m scrolling through my bookmarks, looking for the links to the above fics.
31. Bonus question: rec me something!
Looking at my bookshelf for book recs, gotta say Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett - a favouriteThe Shining by Stephen King - god I love the book so much more than the filmA Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking - possibly the reason I study physics today?Mighty Fizz Chilla by Philip Ridley - a fucking weird kids book that I read like four times because it was just so damn good?
