I highly recommend this story. It’s jam-packed with angst as the Wens take over the cultivation world after the indoctrination. Wei Ying and Lan Zhan are presumed dead but instead, they’re fighting to survive while non-intamtely dual cultivating (tri-cultivating?) with the evil sword from the Xuanwu. It’s a totally unique AU that will keep you gasping and guessing, and the superb writing will keep you on the edge of your seat eagerly awaiting the next chapter. @doctorbunsenhoneydew

Summary: Alerted by Wen Zhuliu to the mess his son has made of the indoctrination camp, Wen Ruohan realises that war may come to his doorstep sooner than he's ready. By reacting quickly, the cultivators escaping from the Xuanwu's cave are recaptured to be used as hostages in earnest. Trapped inside the cave, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji can only listen to the devastation, knowing no rescue is coming. To fight against tyranny, unlikely forces emerge. From the ashes of the present, a new future is forged.

He decides to take the second chance he has been offered, to live freely and without regrets. As it turns out, a life without regrets involves: 1. Avoiding all attempts to be adopted so you can launch your career as a rogue-cultivating-assassin, while 2. Juggling a hit-list comprised of the cultivation world’s Who’s Who, and 3. Desperately missing your not-boyfriend who picked the worst ever timing to confess his undying love for you. Murder and mayhem to follow.

I love me a good time-travel, do-over work that digs deep into the flaws and mistakes of the characters in the original timeline and explores the motivations in a way that is true to the spirit of the characterizations provided in the source material and includes plausible conjecture for those actions when not explicitly provided in canon based on an understanding of human nature. This is a very good option from naqaashi!

If you can’t take any criticism of your favorites (cough JC, LXC, NMJ) without considering the possible validity of those flaws explored, this won’t make you happy to read, but if you like to think about why JC doesn’t deny his role in the siege of Burial Mounds, why LXC might lose his brother’s trust, why NMJ is a hypocrite, when looking at the things that need fixing or preventing in the do-over timeline and want to see how differently things might play out, this is most definitely one you’ll want to read.
