HC that Shikamaru doesn’t go to the gym a lot, whenever he wants to work out he just heads off to the Nara forest for some manual labor
Ever since they started dating, Shikamaru would often take Temari to the Nara clan forest.
To keep him company while he tended to the herd.
To rest and stretch their legs after a long journey from Sunagakure, or after completing missions.
To help him with his training, perfecting his shadow techniques and sharpening his combat skills.
To carry out forest surveillance (partly to make sure Hidan’s head hasn’t chewed its way out of the grave).
But eventually, these visits became more frequent, impromptu, random, and purposeless (almost).
If the trees can whisper, they would tell of the many nights they cuddled as they stargazed, and the many days they dozed off while watching the clouds drift.
If the deer can articulate, they would tell of the many places where their lips weren’t made for talking, and their hands weren’t made for working.
If the cold lakes can speak, they would tell of how the waters would swish and splash around them as they moved and grind underwater.
If the uneven grounds can talk, they would tell of how the earth would crack and vibrate underneath them when they clash skin to skin.
If only the elements had a voice.
For now, they shall remain secrets that only the forest knows.
More Nara Clan forest headcanons
Hi so, I recently finished rewatching the Hidan V Shikamaru fight, and was thinking a lot about the forest.
So what we do know is that it's forbidden for people to enter it, that aren't from the Nara clan without permission. It's on the outside of Konoha, kinda acting as a natural barrier from the outside world and the village.
Now consider. The Nara forest, typically can keep outsiders out relatively easily. You need to have a significant amount of chakra and strength to pass through it if you aren't Nara. So for the most part day to day people passing by aren't able to get in. Like if your average traveler stumbles upon it, they just can't enter it.
As for people that are strong enough to push past the natural barrier? An awful fate awaits them. Especially if the forest can sense you have negative intentions.
Generations and generations of Nara have maintained the forest, often feeding it some of their own chakra. Hundreds of years ago when the world was much more dangerous, seals and jutsus were tied to the forest.
It's largely legend the fate that awaits attackers, as very few have lived to tell the tale. There's talk of the ground shifting and changing, trying to swallow you whole. The trees suddenly sprouting branches and aiming right for you. Deers, the main creature in the forest, known for their docile nature will run towards you. Often with the intention to jab their antlers through your body.
The Nara forest is its own living thing, that will fight to defend itself in the face of danger.
Oh Deer (Shikamaru x Reader, Part I)
The Nara forest is the thickest forest, even in Konoha. It isn't made of the biggest trees, in fact the trees in the Nara forest are completely normal sized and untouched by senju, something very few trees can claim nowadays. But there is not a spot of sunlight on the ground of the Nara forest, save the occasional pond or lake that cuts an oasis of sunshine. The Nara forest is dark; once you can't see the edges of it anymore, it's as dark as a cave.
Do you have a favourite deer in the Nara forest?
That’s almost like asking me if I have a favorite family member…🤔even if I find my mom as troublesome as I do, I couldn’t tell you I completely prefer my dad over her. However, thinking back to it, there was a fawn when I was younger who liked laying down next to me when I was cloud watching in the forest. If I remember properly, I think I named him Shikadai.
Happy day, Shikamaru nara
Oh Deer (Shikamaru x Reader, Part II)
Synopsis: You live at the edge of the Nara forest and those deer keep ruining your garden! After a fruitless attempt to get help from a member of the Nara clan, you think you’ve found a solution.
Notes: This was supposed to be a one shot, but NO, I can’t not make a series. I was going to stop here, but no I have to fend off ideas to make this longer. If I have some good ideas I might, might continue. I just had to fall in love with Shikamaru. I really hated the first chapter of this so I hate that I can’t stop writing for this prompt. Enjoy.
