Sweater Witches! [Days 18-25]
As a lil' bonus, a closeup of the shelf I set up in Gogh with their merch and photos!
"Well, who do we have here?" The voice calls across the half empty mall corridor. Narise pauses, just outside the door of the perfume store he'd been in. He'd managed to talk himself into spending a bit of the money that he'd found tucked into his jacket pocket, assumedly from Mr. Paek, since he was the only person with money that Narise spent time with who might do something like that rather than straight up handing it to him or just transferring it to the money pool.
The sweet, chaotic smell of the store leaking into the veranda seemed to vanish as the remembered smell of smoke, and alcohol and sweat seems to consume his senses. He knows that voice far too well. The windows above them let in plenty of light, yet it felt dark. "So which one of my precious nephews am I looking at?"
Narise turns to the voice. "Uncle." He greets cold and controlled, trying to mask the wave of fear that crashes over him. He was not a child anymore. He could handle this. He doesn't even notice the hand flying to his chest, so ingrained is the gesture. The tall, stern faced man in his fifties or maybe his 60's, has short dark hair, cold eyes and a weathered face that showed signs of having had refined features before time, the alcohol that clung to his breath, and a few too many hits to the face took their toll. His beer belly pressed against his torn jacket, but the brand new shoes he wore showed that he was capable of taking care of himself, but chose not to for a reason Narise did not care to know. There was just enough resemblance that if someone told you they were related, it might make sense, but clearly, Narise and his brothers got their looks from their mother.
He takes a breath, focusing on the smells of the perfumes, the way they blended with all the other smells of the mall. It was a busy mix, but one that he was familiar with now, grounding and something to pull him back. He turns away from his uncle and walks away. He counts the tiles as he crosses them, focusing on moving quickly to the more crowded food court where he could hopefully lose himself in the throng and vanish. But he skids on the slick tiles, the thick heels of his boots slipping as he's yanked to a stop hard by a tight grip on his arm. "Narise Ren! don't be rude. Stop walking and talk to your uncle." The drop of that hated name angers him.
"That's not my name. And you are not my uncle anymore. You stopped being one when you didn't protect us, and when you ran off, abandoning all 6 of us to whatever awfulness might have occurred if our brother hadn't stepped up and taken us in."
"It's the name your father gave you. Respect your elders. I'll always be your uncle and you should be grateful for everything I did to take care of you brats."
Narise pulls his arm away, ignoring the way it hurts. He'd have bruises tomorrow, but at least arms were easyish to hide. He needs to get away. He looks around for an out, the people around them glance away and keep walking, entering stores or food lines to avoid looking too nosy. He could see a few teenagers, clearly skipping school, have their phones out and recording. He has to get away. His thoughts bounce and skip, too quick to catch.
"I have to go." His voice is trembling, not as strong as he'd like. He tries to walk away again, only to have himself pulled to a stop again. "I have places to be."
"You owe me. You and your brothers. For all the money you cost me running off with that kid. and all the money me and your father spent taking care of you after that worthless mother of yours ran off and left us with 6 kids and mounting medical bills from a brat who was never supposed to live."
Narise tugs at the hem of the open back collared vest that he wore as the Rover pulls into the driveway of his destination. He was meeting Paek to attend an even with some of Paek's underworld associates and not the street ones, but the fancy, super rich ones. He'd asked that Narise dress up a bit for the event and so he had.
The sleeveless, three button black collared vest he'd chosen to wear by itself had a plunging neckline to the first of the buttons and the hem was short, leaving small triangles of visible skin on his sides where it didn't quite meet his white slacks. His bare arms and shoulders were dusted with the faintest hint of scented shimmer dust. He paired the outfit with heeled black boots, gold hoop earrings and a black leather watch on one wrist and a three band gold bracelet on the other. His warm honey hair had been swept gently back away from his face leaving his bangs and a few framing pieces.
He'd even gone with a soft natural makeup look and the expensive perfume that Paek had bought him. And of course, his diamond-pattern, mirror leather Chanel bag. Everything he wore except the makeup had been bought by Paek. He'd decided to go with this look since the event seemed to matter to Paek.
He stares up at the mansion as he steps down from the Range Rove that had been sent to get him. He'd been here twice before for Paek's version of 'family dinner' with 'the kids' aka the three men that Paek, his boss and his boss's husband had adopted and raised together, only one of them being younger than Narise. Supposedly there was a niece somewhere studying abroad. But this place never failed to remind him that he could look like he belonged, he could even smell like it, but he didn't really belong here. He swallows and walks inside. He's waved inside and into a foyer with a nod and hint of a smile from one of the guards. He waits in the foyer for Paek as he was instructed. Apparently he needed an escort to enter the event.
I gathered up all my favorite references that I never got around to drawing and threw them into a collage. Also posting each pic on its own.
Shush, Hethurin doesn’t have a favorite...
Made a set of Chibis! Out of the 8 characters from their story, I only had 4 chibis so I wanted to make the other 4. The old ones are very outdated so I might as well re-do them too
