I think another reason why people are upset about no marper scenes with Clarke is because since S1 Clarke has always had a bond with Monty, she was one of the first people who became friends with him and throughout the seasons they've always hugged when they were separated and worried about each other and I think some people got bitter we saw E hug Monty instead of Clarke. I personally am holding out hope for their hug but not until Clarke integrates back into them and stops being so isolated
People are upset because people enjoy being upset. This is part of their fandom experience.
They want the stories they want to see and they want them now. It doesn’t matter if it interferes with the long term story the writers are telling to make it a BETTER story.
You wanna know why most fic writers write drabbles? One shots? Little bits and pieces stuck together?
Because making an exciting, engaging plot that draws the audience in IS HARD.
Those are easy. You get your feelings, fluff or angst or reunions or smut, and then you get out. You don’t have to commit to a story or follow through on any threads. You don’t have to put a narrative together. All you have to do is imagine someone else’s characters in a situation you made up, whether you’re using their setting or your own.
What everyone wants on screen? They want fanfiction. They want their ship validated and their feelings fluffed. And instead, The 100 continues to tell the traumatic, exciting, end of the world survival story about pain and loss and loneliness and guilt and love and loyalty and disaster and betrayal and gray morality that they have ALWAYS been telling,
and the peanut gallery, none of whom have ever written for tv, and very few of whom have ever written something novel length and concerned themselves with plot, structure, tension, symbolism, character development, rising action, turning points, conclusions, or what have you, are acting as if their frustration with not getting fanfiction one shots on screen (even though they ARE getting fanfiction on screen, it’s just slow burn, multi-chap, angst fanfiction) are saying the story doesn’t make sense and it should be something else.
It’s doing a good job. We get to explore Clarke’s sense of isolation and Bellamy’s commitment to his family, and their different ways of doing things, that aren’t actually different, just not done in tandem anymore.
If we didn’t SEE how this separation had affected them and their relationship, then we wouldnt’ FEEL the tragedy of their separation. SO
LET US FEEL THE TRAGEDY AND THE PAIN AND THE ANGST AND WATCH AS CLARKE AND BELLAMY FIND THEIR WAY BACK TO EACH OTHER.
If Monty got involved, it would ease the angst so we wouldn’t get to see it with Clarke and Bellamy as much. And we need to have that EXPLODE. Monty would release that tension. Then it wouldn’t make for good story anymore. And Clarke’s NEVER had anything to do with Harper at all. Clarke and Bellamy shared Monty, but Harper was all Bellamy’s.
People don’t want Echo to exist. And because of this, they are erasing EVERYTHING about her story and B/E and it is BAD for the story to do that, and bad for the characters and bad for the fandom.
It doesn’t matter if there’s a plot line or two we don’t like. It’s still the story. If you ERASE characters because you don’t like them, you end up watching something like The Lxa Show and if you start reinforcing this non canon interpretation among your fandom, you and your whole community are going to have real problems following this show and understanding how this all affects Clarke and Bellamy and the rest of the story.
I see what you’re saying, nonny, but our fandom is going off the rails. I don’t say “stick to the text” because i’m some no fun teacher, I say stick to the text because that’s what’s happening in the story. And our shipping shouldn’t change that. If our feelings are so big that we’re erasing canon and turning characters into something they never were, then our shipping is having a negative effect on us and fandom.
This is bad shipping. Not good shipping. Use shipping to enrich your experience not make it destructive and painful. We actually have control over this. If a show or ship is making you miserable, step back and give yourself soe breathing space.
