HASHIRAMA HASUHDUHUHUHU
Getting to see the first Kage from each village was a super-treat for fans that like our lore and history to be rich.
The Sasuke / Senjutsu / Jugo thing made perfect sense to me pretty quickly but I couldn't understand why the Senjutsu markings would be projected on Susano'o since it's ethereal. Naruto's transformation with Kurama gained Senjutsu rings around it's eyes, noticable when Naruto and Minato paired together a Rasengan a couple of chapters ago. Once I remembered that, it made a lot more sense as to why there would be the familiar flame-like markings making their return.
On the subject of flame-like markings, How much of a foreshadowing is that?! Sasuke having black flame marks on his body way back in Part I when later in Part II, he adopts the Amaterasu as his own and even innovates the Inferno Style!
I think that Kishimoto has made it his mission in life to psychologically destroy me via Sasuke Uchiha feelings.
These recent chapters have been... ugh.
I mean look at this.
First, he basically reverts back to being twelve, and the old feelings of inadequacy, helplessness and guilt start seeping in. It's like he's been sent right back to the roof of that hospital, and is forced (once again) to come to terms with the fact that he's losing the race, and that, pretty soon, he won't be able to measure up. Except instead of feeling a surging need to do something about it like when he was younger, he's just left with this empty notion that, no matter what he does - no matter how far into darkness and power obsession he slips - he can't do anything about it.
And then there's his almost unconscious / instinctual shielding of Naruto at pretty much every turn -- another twelve-year-old habit that dies hard.
Then trying his best to rally Naruto when even he loses hope, because I think the idea of a world where Naruto doesn't have his trademark optimism and fighting spirit is deeply disturbing to Sasuke. As one of the biggest pessimists ever, I think he relies on Naruto to have hope for the both of them, as hope isn't something Sasuke has ever been able to hold onto.
And then we have this fucking look. This look right here.
This look kills me every damn time. Sasuke knows that when Naruto is able to get a good look at all the devastation-- when he's able to see how many corpses are littering the ground, that he won't be able to handle it. You can see on his face that Sasuke doesn't feel allegiance for the men and women who have died on the battlefield, but he knows that Naruto will break.
He doesn't care, but he cares that Naruto cares, and this look just screams it.
Don't even get me started on this. Just don't.
Kishi, you need to stop. Now. But not really gosh keep going. It's brill. You're brill.
