@hymnism That anon you got asking about the Kaito DLC general non spoiler summary if they’re still interested I’ve summed it up here under the cut. I don’t recall all the criteria they were interested in, though so hopefully it’s along the lines of what they were looking for.
The Kaito Files: DLC ($30 Retail)
Number of Chapters: Four
Hours to Play: 11
Sidecontent: None
Premium Adventure: None
Kaito’s Fighting Styles: 2 (Bruiser and Tank)
Total Skill Number: 71
Characters:
Aside from Kaito, Higashi, Tsukumo the cast is new. I personally enjoyed the new cast and liked the way they were presented. There are several characters introduced for the purpose of Kaito’s story overall.
Mood/Atmosphere/Tone: I would say it’s more drama than comedy, but with the signature RGG humour at times. The overall genre I would describe as action drama and more serious overall.
General Thoughts:
There are some huge similarities between Kaito’s story and Kiwami 1. In fact some of the parallels between the two are consistent enough that if you’ve played Kiwami 1, you might have a general idea of elements of the story. I will refrain from spoiler talk, but it’s very much there.
At times, there are some similarities with yakuza four as well.
While I don’t know enough about video game markets to say for sure, 30 does seem a bit pricey. I had pre-ordered the DLC and the Kaito Files were alongside *other* content when I did so, nor do I recall paying 30 but I’ll double check at some point.
Kaito’s fighting style is a mix of Kiryu and Saejima I would say. He’s all tank, but nowhere near as slow as Saejima, though not as fluid as Kiryu as he lacks the rush elements. Kaito can toss motorcycles with ease and hits heavy. When he punches the sound reverberates intensely off the screen. He also has a strong guard and some decent parry work.
The story itself is solid and I genuinely didn’t see certain parts of it coming. It’s consistent and due to it’s more limited time frame doesn’t drag out too long. You get answers fairly quickly and are never left guessing for too long.
I have some mixed feelings on the ending as well as certain elements, but overall I think the story and game play were solid and fun.
I’ve always liked playing the ‘harder hitters’ more fighting wise, so Kaito definitely appeals to me personally more than Yagami for fighting style. Kaito tragically does not have a skateboard.
Soundtrack/OST/Music: I believe they have taken some of the music from Lost Judgment, Yakuza Like a Dragon and a couple unique tracks. I’m fine with this.
Language Options: I played with the Japanese Audio, English subtitles. Full English Dub present as well.
Overall Rating; 7.5/10. Possibly might change. I really enjoyed it and had fun, but I don’t know personally if the price makes sense. Someone with better knowledge would have to commend on that.
I really like this poster that came with my game its snazzy.
