National Parks: Your Yellowstone
National Geographic has been celebrating the National Park Service centennial all year with a special series of Your Shot assignments, monthly stories in National Geographic magazine—including an issue devoted entirely to Yellowstone—and much, much more.
Over the course of the next month, we’ll launch two more assignments about photographing in national parks. One will be led by Charlie Hamilton James and will focus on taking pictures of wildlife. The other will be headed up by Erika Larsen, who will guide the Your Shot community on how to capture pictures of the people who visit, live, work, and volunteer in national parks.
Charlie will be kicking off his assignment with two photo walks at Yellowstone for a select number of Your Shot members. Follow along with us on the #yourshotmeetup and #followtheyellowborder hashtags on Instagram and Twitter. Join us this Friday, May 20, at noon ET for a Twitter Chat with @natgeophotos; Your Shot editors will be on hand as they prepare for their adventure in Yellowstone National Park. We’ll ask you questions about your favorite places to photograph outdoors and we’ll answer any questions you might have for us—join the conversation using the hashtag #natgeolive.
Finally, we want to thank the Your Shot photographers who took part in our #yellowstone hashtag challenge. Not only was photographer Jess Danielle Roberts published in the May 2016 issue of National Geographic magazine, but 50 of our editors’ favorite photos will be on a digital display in the lobby of the beautiful Lake Yellowstone Hotel—a National Historic Landmark celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. Congratulations for being part of the party!
We’ll be posting on our social channels next week and you can follow along by searching these tags: #natgeoparks, #followtheyellowborder, #findyourpark, and #yourshotmeetup.
