The thing that stands out to me most of all in Clockwork Angel's prologue is that Will and Tessa are both introduced thinking nonstop about another person—Jem and Nate, respectively. They were both so damn alone at that point in their lives, and only had one person with whom they truly felt a reciprocal love. In Will's case, Jem loves him back just as fiercely and that love went on to define both of their lives. For Tessa though, she is betrayed by the person who was supposed to be her anchor. She doesn't even realize how alone she is, because her love for her brother should have been enough to satisfy her, if only he felt the same love in return.
