Honestly, been low-key (high-key) obsessing over this for a while now. I'm talking like deep diving Harry Potter lore, animal symbolism, reddit threads, the whole shebang, and wondering what the Patronuses of the HL characters would be. Because let’s be real, we were ROBBED of this in the game. At least we can theorize and have some fun with it though, right? 😂
Here's my theory (my game theory! ha! ahem...anyways):
Sebastian Sallow -> Bull
Bulls represent thunderous willpower and fierce protection incarnate (ancient myths literally used bull-like guardians at city gates). It charges at anything that threatens its own… which is so Sebastian. Loyal, passionate, but also maybe a bit recklessly obsessed when pushed (ahem, devotion to Anne, ahem). That’s exactly what the bull means in so many traditions. To me, Seb's really giving the whole strong, stubborn, impossible-to-move-once-he’s-made-up-his-mind vibe. My mans literally charged headfirst into the Dark Arts horn first like he saw a waving red flag.

Ominis Gaunt -> Bat
I know, I know, blind bat cliché. But hear me out. A bat Patronus is actually super rare (or i guess how it's said on Pottermore "unusual"), symbolizing resilience in darkness and the gift of perception beyond sight. People always think of bats as sinister, but they’re really guardians of the night, watchful, sensitive, and deeply loyal to their circle. For Ominis, the bat reflects both his blindness and his ability to navigate life with courage and clarity. It’s the Patronus of someone who endures trauma without surrendering their moral compass, finding light where everyone else only sees shadow. AND LIKE COME ON! TELL ME THAT'S NOT PERFECT FOR MY BABY BOI! He's literally come from the depths of hell (his fucking family) and has sworn of the Dark Arts despite his upbringing. And he's such a critical part of Sebastian and Anne's lives and so loyal. truly don't think anything fits him better. Spectral bat swarm flapping around in the dark while he just stands there all broody and tragic? Ominis ate Patronus aesthetics and left no crumbs (sorry I don’t make the rules).

Poppy Sweeting -> Hippogriff
The Hippogriff just is Poppy, no notes. Okay fine some notes.
It’s a Patronus that blends humility with fierce loyalty, majestic and proud, but you only earn its trust with respect and kindness. Which… hello, Poppy in a nutshell. Her compassion for magical creatures and her courage to protect them no matter what? ESPECIALLY after finding out her backstory that she literally comes from a family of poachers and left that ish to live with her Gran and activity fucks shit up for poachers. That’s Hippogriff energy through and through. It’s rare, noble, soaring, and will fight you if you threaten what she loves.
Literally in this website, it says "Those with the Hippogriff Patronus are among the most sincere and loyal creatures in the Wizarding World, violently defensive of anyone they care about. However, they are also secretly forgiving of those who wrong them, a trait that they extend even to their most dire of enemies, and one that allows them to gain more and more allies over time."
My girl Popps really said “treat creatures with respect or get talons to the face" with the sweetest smile.
Furthermore, I'd like to remind everyone of Highwing. That's all 💅.

Natsai Onai -> Gazelle (surprise surprise 🙄)
This one’s basically confirmed, like James with his stag, Sirius with his dog, and Pettigrew with his rat, Natty’s Patronus and Animagus share the same form. We been knew. But I’m including her anyway because I love her. 🥹 (Also cause I have a headcanon about Natty that I shall soon reveal which is literally what I think about at night 100% of the time 🤭).
The gazelle is rare and striking, symbolizing swiftness, vigilance, and unshakable grace. Gentle by nature yet formidable when threatened, it mirrors Natty’s courage and her instinct to act decisively in the face of injustice. Both her Animagus and her Patronus reveal the truest shape of her soul: resilient, free-spirited, and forever watchful over those she loves.
And honestly? That description of the gazelle could not fit Natty better. Gazelles live in constant awareness, knowing danger is always nearby, yet instead of collapsing under that vulnerability, they’ve adapted, darting side to side, clever and resilient. That’s exactly Natty during her quests: she’s been through loss, betrayal, and danger (Rookwood, Harlow, poachers, LOOSING HER FATHER TO THE SAME TYPE OF SHITTY-NESS BACK IN UGANDA, you name it), but she doesn’t let fear control her. She stays vigilant, keeps her head high, and uses her quick thinking to protect others. Like the gazelle, she turns vulnerability into strength. Who said prey? I think da fuq not 🦌✨🦌✨🦌✨

Imelda Reyes -> Gazelle (prove me wrong!)
Yes, also gazelle. But listen!!! The gazelle is all fleet-footed elegance, vigilance, and spirited grace under pressure. Agile, intuitive, always ready to spring into action. For Imelda, it’s the embodiment of her pride in flight, her relentless drive to be the best, and the razor-sharp precision she demands from herself.
Also I highly ship her with Natty. And trust me, I went back and forth on this one. I thought maybe hawk, maybe some other sleek predator bird. But NO! Gazelle is perfection. Soulmates. Lily-and-James-tier symmetry.
Genuinely, I'm obsessed with the ship because just imagine. Canon Imelda is a Chaser and Slytherin captain (she literally says it herself), but Quidditch was cancelled in our HL year. Tragic. And I know in my heart of hearts Natty is a Quidditch player too (Natty's giving Keeper vibes). The rivalry?? The banter?? The absolute chaos? The forbidden love, not only on the pitch, but also because it’s Gryffindor vs Slytherin? THE SCANDAL?! The betrayal of house pride? The whispered gossip in the stands?
TELL ME NATTIMELDA ISN’T WRITTEN IN THE STARS. GO AHEAD. I FUCKING DARE YOU. 🦌💚🦌❤️ FIGHT MEEEE!!!

Garreth Weasley -> Otter
The otter is all joy, cleverness, and boundless curiosity. Playful yet sharp as hell, it thrives in water and on land, wriggling its way out of any situation. Tell me that’s not Garreth. Mischievous, inventive, easy-going, always ready with a grin and some new “brilliant idea” that may or may not blow up in his face (and everyone else's). But like the otter, he adapts, wriggles out of scrapes, bounces back, and somehow makes it all look fun.
Garreth really said “life is for experimenting, might blow something up, might make history. Either way, I’m here for a good time and to completely fuck up Daddy Sharp's life.” 🦦💥🧪
(Also yes, I’m aware his Patronus matches Hermione Granger’s. I truly believe deep within my soul that he would 100% find a way to make that his entire personality.)

Leander Prewett -> Rooster
The rooster is all bravado, noise, and restless pride. It struts, crows, and postures loudly, desperate to be seen and heard, often way bolder in appearance than in truth. Tell me that’s not Leander. He’s always butting heads (seriously?), always trying to prove himself (SerIOuslY?), always swaggering like he’s hot shit (SERIOUSLY!)… while simultaneously losing in Summoner’s Court again. And again. And again. Like a lil' bi—
The rooster fits because it’s not the grand Patronus he would claim to have, but it’s the one that mirrors him best: loud, stubborn, sometimes comical, but persistent as hell.
Remember DADA? “Look at me!!! Please look at me!!! Look how I cast this Stupify with my shaky voice and bad aim!” and then immediately lost to Sebastian in front of the whole class. 🐓 Cock-a-doodle-flop! Even Professor Hecat was done with his shit.

Duncan Hobhouse -> Weasel
Who's surprised? Anyone surprised? I mean, I think I nailed it with this one. Honestly, if you don't agree with anything else on this post, this I don't think can be argued!
A weasel (because what else??!) Patronus is sly, slippery, and all about self-preservation. It doesn’t fight, it wriggles out, it runs, it lets someone else take the hit. Tell me that’s not Puffskein Dunkein himself (“Oh please, MC. Go get a venomous tentacula for me to prove I'm brave" SHUT UP PUFFSKEIN!)
The weasel directly mirrors his cowardice, his eagerness to let others suffer in his place, and that desperate little need to look braver than he is. Just like how a rat revealed Pettigrew’s true nature, the weasel would mark Duncan: not loyal, not courageous, but ruled by fear and prejudice. A Patronus of hollow pride and quick escape routes.
And lest we not forget, the little fucker once said:
- “If only Black had the power to choose the other professors too. Then we could get rid of Muggle-borns like Garlik.”
- “It’s about time Hogwarts put someone like Black in charge. Perhaps now we can stop all these disgusting Mudbloods from ruining the school.”
- “My parents were thrilled to hear that Black was being put in charge. Our families have been friends for centuries.”
(Here's the only youtube link of someone who recorded the random encounter I could find)

Anywayyy, that’s my Patronus brain dump for now! Thank you for listening to my completely unwarranted 2 cents on this very important subject. 😝😝
Let me know what you think — if you agree, disagree, or have a better fit for anyone, I’d love to hear it.
(…except for Duncan. No one is talking me out of Weasel. Unless, of course, you’ve got an alternative that’s equally slimy, cowardly, and desperate. In which case, by all means, drop it in the comments.)
Love y'all! Stay cute 💖
