The blades DIG DEEP and wrenches out another scrappy piece of his heart but it doesn’t phase him , not when it was so familiar. By now , he’s heard the damn words SO MANY times from different mouths of people he cared TOO MUCH about. He just never thought he’d hear it with so much ABSOLUTION from his own flesh and blood.
Like shrapnel , it tears right into what was left of his vulnerability , SO PAINFUL it was numbing. The anger that’s usually ALWAYS SO present had served as his shield against such words but right now , it’s abandoned him like everyone else. It’s NOT EASY to love him , he sure as hell knows that. He’s COLD like the ice of his eyes , wrapped in frozen armor to keep everyone at a distance so that he can keep defending , protecting , while the DARKNESS that’s a part of him as much as the light that SWADDLES around behind him like a cape. The same kind that has consumed the man that stands before him. It’s MUCH EASIER to hate him and he’s accepted this constant truth of his existence.
❛ I know you do. ❜ His voice is a small rumble , FLAYED OPEN & RAW for those who cared to listen. But most importantly , the blue of his eyes flash with a pained acknowledgement and understanding of an admission that RIGHTFULLY belonged to his son. ❛ And I don’t blame you. ❜ What was there to love about the knight claimed by ice and shadow ?
