On our way to Mt. Mitchell, we decided to stop at Lake James State Park for the night. This park as walk-in car camping, hot showers, and some of the prettiest views of the MST we got on the entire trail. Across the lake, you can see Shortoff, Tablerock, and you can follow the MST across for a solid 20 miles. We finally got to climb Mt. Mitchell! The weather this year just wasn’t cooperating for us on the Mountains to Sea Trail. We skipped Mitchell due to ice earlier in our hike. Since our time on the trail was coming to an end, we headed back to climb Mitchell on a beautiful day. It was 65 and sunny when we left camp. When we got near the top, the temperature had dropped into the 30s and it was sleeting.
