While there aren’t a ton of people roaming around Kansas speaking anything other than English, there were a few and Mia would daydream of what it would be like to just know an entirely different language. She would think about how cool it would feel to be able to speak to someone and people around not know what you were saying, but in a cooler way rather than children making up a language that they forgot the next day. She tells herself that eventually she’ll take up a language class and work on learning Spanish - especially now that she’s in California. The item on her bucket list seems to have gotten even higher up on her priorities.
2. Go surfing
Being in a land-locked state doesn’t offer itself up to many ocean visit opportunities. Maybe she watched a little too much MTV where people lived on the coast, went down to the beach, and had perfect tans, but Mia has always found surfing to be really cool. She just hopes that when she finally does get down to trying it she won’t completely wipe out and hurt herself.
3. Be arrested while at a protest
An odd bucket list item for sure, Mia really likes the idea of civil disobedience and being part of the resistance. With so many rallies and protests going on in the world, she wants to be a part of all of them. She’s heard so many stories about people being arrested because they were “causing a disturbance” and she would like to be one of those people that is seen as so abrasive, passionate, and loud about what she believes in that she too is labeled as a disturbance.
4. Chase a tornado
Mia is no stranger to tornadoes in Kansas and since she was a child, the movie Twister has always been one of her faves. She knows how destructive they can be, sure, but that doesn’t make them any less cool. Now that she’s older she can appreciate the dangers of tornadoes a little more, but that doesn’t keep chasing one from being on her bucket list.
5. Learn archery
Watching a little too much of Robin Hood messed with Mia’s mind and made her determined that archery is one of the coolest things in the world. She’s convinced that eventually she can be as good as that fictional fox who pulled off all the crazy stunts.
6. Visit the Niagra Falls
After seeing so many awesome pictures, Mia really just wants to see the great beauty for herself. She doesn’t know whether she’ll be disappointed by the reality or not, but there’s only one way to find out. Either way, at least she could say that she rode a barrel down because that’s also part of the visit goal.
7. Visit the San Diego Zoo
It seems silly to still be on her bucket list since she lives just a little over two hours away now, but this has been on Mia’s list ever since she was a kid. Eventually she’s gotta make it there, though maybe now that she’s older she won’t try and mimic every animal that she passes by.
8. Spend the night dancing away at the Hakkasan nightclub in Las Vegas
Though clubs really aren’t her thing, Mia would still love to gain access to Hakkasan if only to experience the amazement for herself. To be able to hear the music and see some of the greatest DJs of her time up there doing their thing, it’s a dream for sure.
9. Meet Zedd
Mia isn’t really the type to fangirl, but she loves Zedd. He is an idol and an inspiration in whose presence Mia is sure she would just melt in. She has seen him once and even if they weren’t the best tickets, it was still an event she will never forget.
10. Get her father to apologize to Dave
This is probably the most important on her list and it’s more of a goal to do before her father dies rather than before she dies. It hurts Mia to know that the two of them don’t get along - ignoring the fact that he hasn’t been too chatty with her either. More than anything she wants to feel like a close family again and she wants to heal whatever pain and hurt her brother still carries around from that rejection. Additionally, Mia wants to heal her father’s hurt over losing his son, because no matter how he acts, she knows deep down he has to be hurting just as they are.
