Prompt 10 - Spy AU
@wolfstarmicrofic April 10, word count 755
Remus was an expert at blending in. Who knew that a geometric grandad jumper and brown corduroys left the wearer basically invisible? That’s what he was wearing now as he entered the huge office building and made his way to the top floor.
He’d made it all the way to the office he was looking for, and now all he needed to do was use the flash disk disguised as a watch to pull all the files saved on the computer behind that door, and then he could drop that off with his handler and go home. He reached for the doorknob at the same time it swung open to reveal the last person he wanted to see.
Sirius Black, codename Padfoot, stared back at him, a sly smile creeping onto his face.
“Aww, Moony, late as usual,” he smirked and took off towards the stairs. An alarm sounded, and Remus aborted his mission. He chased after Sirius, assuming he had come here for the same reason he had, and that meant he had a copy of the files that Remus could no longer collect.
“OI TWAT, GET BACK HERE!!!” Remus shouted down the stairwell. Sirius’s head appeared a few levels down, twisting to look up at him, that same shit-eating grin on his face.
“You’ll have to catch me, Moony!” he called back, cackling as he hurried down the next set of stairs. Remus rolled his eyes and took out one of the toys Filius had given him for this mission.
Sure that the rope was secure, he jumped over the railing and fell through the open space between the staircases. He whizzed down and landed on the ground floor just as Sirius jumped the last few steps. “What the fuck?!” Sirius exclaimed, genuinely shocked.
“Give me those files!” Remus demanded.
“Ha, yeah right.”
The door in front of them opened, and a huge guard grabbed Sirius. “Moony! Help!” Sirius cried out as he struggled to escape the guard’s grasp. Remus ignored him and dove out the door, hurrying towards the emergency exit.
“MOONY, PLEASE!!!”
Remus let out an exasperated sigh and made a mental note to seriously question his own sanity. Remus turned around and pulled out his pen, jabbing the nib into the guard’s neck and clicking the button on top. The hulking guard fell to the floor, snoring like a bear.
“What the fuck was that?” Sirius asked, impressed, already hurrying towards the exit.
“Sleeper pen,” Remus shrugged and opened the door for Sirius before walking through it himself and walking faster until they were out of the alleyway and back into the throng of the city street.
“What do I need to do to get a copy of those files?” he asked, keeping so close to Sirius that their elbows knocked together. Sirius pretended to think for a minute, making a right meal of it.
“A night of shagging might make me feel generous,” he said, intentionally bumping his arm into Remus’s. Remus rolled his eyes again.
“Fine, but I want the files first,”
“Here you are, sweetheart,” Sirius flicked a flash drive out of his inner pocket and tossed it to Remus. “I had so much time waiting for you to arrive that I made a copy just for you.”
“Prick,” Remus grumbled.
“You love it. Now, where shall we meet?”
“We went to mine last time; it’s your turn to play host.”
“Oh, excellent, I’ve got a new toy I want to try,” Sirius purred in his ear, kissing his cheek as he leaned in and then disappeared into the crowd. Remus took a second to calm himself down before he set off to the drop-off location.
An hour later, he was walking up the well-lit stairs to Sirius’s penthouse. He knew the code, of course, and let himself in.
“Hello, sweetheart,” Sirius purred and sauntered over to him. “Ready for a night you’ll never forget?”
Remus closed his eyes, breathing in deeply and seriously questioning his sanity again, but before he could answer, Sirius was already leading him towards his bedroom. Remus followed him willingly, because try as he might, he couldn’t give this up, even if Sirius worked for the other team, and if they were ever caught together, it could spell the end for the pair of them.
Sirius pushed him onto the bed and clambered on, leaning over him and capturing his lips, and for a little while, Remus pretended this was real, that they weren’t enemies and that maybe Sirius actually loved him.
