It's not like he was privy to all the sordid details of Etho's elaborate plan for vengeance, but he heard things. Genny is a terrible gossip, and public duels are the perfect fodder for ragging on each other. And everyone was talking about Etho's morbid revenge scheme, making his targets trade killing others to be spared a kill by Etho's hand. Even his victims wouldn't shut up about it. "He showed up in my walls," Nebris complains when they run into each other at spawn the day after Etho gets a kill. He looks ragged, like he's been working too long, like he's not going to stop laughing once he started. "He's got too many people fooled - he's a total sadist." Nebris laughs and moves on before Bdubs can offer his considered opinion on that, which is probably for everyone's best.
