☕murderbot fandom

god I've been having so much fun searching "murderbot" on the fail fandom anon dreamwidth page like once a week and seeing what those crazy kids are up to over there. it's almost always new rounds of tv show bashing + "it is ethical to ship an aroace character and if not does shipping it with a man vs a woman vs another nonbinary person get you into different circles of hell?" where no one on any side of any argument ever makes a good point and "winners" are mostly decided by who phrases their wrong point in the funniest way. my favorite comment I've seen over there was from a book-only fan who appeared to have gotten a little too invested in divorcing themself from all vestiges of the tv show to the point where they said if a fic describes gurathin as drinking water at any point they immediately exit the page. another good one was someone saying "ugh I've had to distance myself from murderbot stuff since the show brought in a slew of migratory slash fandom people, luckily I've had heated rivalry to keep me entertained" and someone else replied "wait, you escaped migratory slash fandom by switching to... heated rivalry?" it's so good.

I feel like “the original story was so cool and nuanced and then other people came in and made it LAME and BAD” is always an attractive narrative regardless of accuracy to the situation

It's funny how common it is with creepypasta given how the original story is often so thin. Like, a paragraph under a spooky photo. The nuance is mostly fandoms taking it as a springing off point, that's how it works

do you have like. puppetry experience?

kind of! all self taught for the most part. the only other puppet project I've really worked on was the 2023 trailer for Astral Guard. Me and my mom made puppets that I voice acted and performed with, it was quite fun!!

(I've improved a lot since then since now I'm literally working as a puppeteer on a show, hehe)

:O!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Hornet's designs are some of my favorites to workshop and refine, and I'm really glad you like them! Like I said before, the possibilties for her are endless, both for her external and internal structures. Capturing details that are both logical from what we know about her and real life spider while then fitting that knowledge into her design is something I'll always love about the process A small collect of roughs for the eyes:

how do you pull that off though? Is it just practice or are there specific strategies

practice! We did a couple days of puppet practice for the show and the rest is just getting experience using it. Sometimes certain puppets are easier to grasp than others! The blue heron one I'm using in that video is particularly fun for me because the neck allows me to be very expressive without too much individual finger movement and the pull band in the head means i just have to pull back my finger to talk instead of flapping my hand. I have more difficulty with other puppets, so I think you just gotta find something thats fun for you and you feel like you can make fun progress with!

Ooo I am not but I’ve been meaning to listen !! You have any favorite characters yourself?
